This message is being sent to all parish offices, secretaries, clergy, and senior wardens of parishes without clergy. Your help is requested in sharing this news with your parish.
St. Nicholas Day, December 6, begins the diocesan-wide St. Nicholas Day Appeal. This year, donations will be used to purchase a freezer to support the ecumenical Noon Lunch program that is delivered through Trinity, Staunton, and to furnish a cottage at Boys Home, Covington.
You may remember that, in years past, the diocesan office mailed an appeal letter and return envelope to each of the 6,000 Episcopal households. In an effort at more responsible stewardship, parishes are now being asked to present the appeal to members of their congregations, using either the bulletin insert or bulletin-ready blurb linked in this email. A number of return envelopes have been sent to each parish, but of course donors may use any envelope. Remind those making gifts to mark checks payable to DIOSWVA, to include "St. Nicholas Day Appeal" in the memo line, and to return gifts to PO Box 2279, Roanoke, VA 24009. Donations may also be made online at www.dioswva.org.
If you have any questions about these materials, please contact Kate Garcia (kgarcia@dioswva.org or 540-342-6797).
We look forward to sharing the good news of the generosity of the parishes with this year's recipients.
