Save the Date for the Celebration of New Ministry of the The Rev. Harrison Heidel: On the evening of Thursday, September 17, at 7 PM, I will celebrate and install the Rev. Harrison Heidel as the new rector of St. Luke's, Hot Springs. Clergy are invited to process in cassock and surplice with red stole.
Fall Clergy Conference Overnight: The Theology of David Brown: Sacrament and Culture is the title the Rev. Dr. Robert MacSwain, Professor of Theology at Sewanee, has given to our October Clergy Conference, October 8--9, which will be held at Evans House.
We will begin with fellowship and gathering time on Thursday from 5--6 PM, followed by dinner. Our first hour session with Dr. Brown will begin after dinner and conclude by 9 PM. Friday morning will begin with some light breakfast fare at 8 AM. Morning Prayer at 8:45 AM. The two one-hour morning sessions with Dr. Brown will include a half-hour break. Lunch will be at noon, followed by some time with me around new policies and initiatives. We'll conclude by 2 PM.

RSVP to Lynn Robertson by October 1, for a dinner and lunch count, and mention any dietary restrictions. (As attendance is not required for retired clergy, they do not need to send me a letter if they choose not to attend.)
Sunday Visitations and Weekday Parish Meetings/Events: Last weekend I worshipped with Christ, Roanoke. This Sunday, I will visit St. John's, Waynesboro.
Yesterday, The Rev. Canon Connor Gwin, our Canon for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, and I were at Virginia Episcopal School (VES) in Lynchburg for the opening of school Eucharist. I celebrated and Connor preached. Yesterday evening, The Rev. Jonathan Harris and I met with vestry of St. John's, Wytheville, to plan for their interim and search processes. Pastoral Concerns:
--Pray for strength and healing for The Rev. Tom Crittenden as he undergoes a radiation series.
--The Rev. Deacon Butch Eanes continues at Springtree Rehab where he is receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Please keep Butch and Carol in your prayers. --The Rev. Sarah Morris' mother, Jane, fell, breaking her nose and both arms. Please keep her in your prayers.

● The Mission Education Working Group of the Executive Board has prepared a "Call to Mission" bulletin insert for parish use this Sunday. Find it here.
● St. John's, Roanoke, offers Music on the Corner, a musical outreach program. --October 2, 6 PM: James String Quartet from Lynchburg, performing works of Beethoven and Borodin as well as some contemporary pieces. --November 6, 6 PM: This All Saints memorial concert will feature the Requiem of Brahms with St. John's Choir and guests. ● Christ, Blacksburg, will welcome Martha Bourlakas on Friday, October 16 to begin a women's retreat, entitled "Our One Word."Martha has done One Word exercises at Annual Council and has taken One Word on the road. Part One of the retreat will begin at 5:30 PM on Friday, will include supper, and concludes around 8:30 PM. Part Two will begin at 9:00 AM with a continental breakfast on Saturday, October 17, and go until noon. The retreat is open to any of the women of the parish or neighboring congregations; cost is $20 and includes both meals. Please register with Paula Williams in the parish office; phone number is 552-2411. Checks should be made payable to "Christ Church."
