Notes from Bishop Mark
New Youth and Young Adult Missioner Connor Gwin to be Ordained: God willing and the people consenting, the bishop of Virginia, The Rt. Rev. Shannon Johnston, will ordain Connor Gwin to the diaconate on Saturday. Keep Connor in your prayers on this momentous day. Connor and Emma have moved to Roanoke and he began moving into his office in Evans house this week.
Sharon Bryant Tentative Ordination Date ~ June 18 at St. Paul's, Bear Mountain: Under my pastoral direction, the Commission on Ministry and the Standing Committee have given final canonical approval for Sharon to be ordained to the diaconate. I met with Sharon last week at her home in Bear Mountain to pray with her and to discuss her possible ordination. We have set a tentative date of June 18. Sharon was made a candidate for ordination last year, but her surgery in the fall delayed her process.
Pastoral Response Team (PRT) Established: For the past several months, following one of the goals of the Mission Action Plan, I have been raising up a team of clergy and lay leaders to assist me in providing pastoral support and care in crisis situations around the diocese. The PRT includes therapists, pastors, and others with a variety of backgrounds and training in organizational systems and conflict resolution. Yesterday, we gathered at Evans House with Chancellor Mark Loftis for a general orientation and an introduction to the Title IV process.
Retreat Next Week ~ No Update Notes: On Monday I will be out of town for a time of retreat and continuing education. There will be no Update notes from me.
