Spring 2013

Spring Convocation Meetings

Dear Friends,

Because this message is being sent before the deadline for parishes to submit their Certificates of Election for Council 2014, our list of lay delegates and alternates is very incomplete. Therefore, we are sending the message to those lay delegates and alternates whose names and email addresses we know AND to those who served for the recent Electing Council, in addition to other people who normally receive convocation and Council information.

We appeal to all parish clergy and administrators/secretaries to please make sure that their lay delegates and alternates receive the information in this message. (And also please send in your Certificates of Election for Council 2014 if you have not already done so!)

Thank you all for your ministry of service to our diocese.

As you may know, the leadup to Council begins with regional gatherings in each of the five convocations of the diocese.

You can download the entire Spring Convocation booklet here. Or, for easier downloading, you can use the following links to view the sections individually.

You should read the booklet prior to the meeting in order to be prepared. Printed copies will be available at each meeting.

Alan Boyce, Canon for Administration, is happy to answer budget questions. If you have any other questions, please contact diocesan staff at Evans House and we will assist you. Our office phone numbers are 540-342-6797 or 800-346-7982. Alan's email address is aboyce@dioswva.org.

We look forward to seeing you!

Tell Your Parish . . . .

Clergy and lay delegates and alternates, please be sure to invite members of your parish to all of the convocation meetings.

These meetings were requested by parishioners to build fellowship and spread the word about the ministries going on around the diocese.

Please take your booklet and your experience back to your parish. Here are a few examples of what you might try at your church:
    • Visit the vestry and summarize the main points of the agenda
    • Write a report for the parish newsletter
    • Speak during the announcement time at a worship service
    • Talk to other parishioners during coffee hour
    • Send a report to parishioners via email
We hear consistently that getting the word out using a variety of methods works best. You know your parish--use what will work for you!
