Connections and the Weekly Email Update Reminders:
The purpose of the Weekly Email Update is to provide a "bridge" between issues of Connections.
Items that appear in an Update are repeated until they either "time out" or appear in the next issue of Connections.
Remember that the deadline for submitting items for Connections is the 15th of the preceding month. Connections generally arrives in people's mailboxes around the 1st of each month. It is also available online from www.dioswva.org around the 20th of the preceding month.
Please be sure to keep Lynn ([email protected]) up-to-date on any changes in delegates and alternates to Council 2013.
All changes must be reported in writing (email is ok) from either the principal clergy, the senior warden (for parishes without clergy), or the vestry clerk. Additions to the Certificate of Election require action by the vestry.
Remember that the canons require that all delegates and alternates be communicants in good standing according to the parish register.
We've heard that information about our parishes in the "Find a Church" section of The Episcopal Church's website is not always complete or accurate.
It is frustrating for visitors to your area and for prospective members to be unable to find basic information about your parish from The Episcopal Church's website. It is especially important for correct information to be posted there if your parish does not have its own website.
Each parish should appoint someone to be responsible for monitoring and updating this information. This is not a difficult job!
The designated person should go to www.episcopalchurch.org, click the "Find a Church" button in the top right corner of the page, and enter the parish's ZIP code in the "Find your Church" box. Next, the person should click the parish's name (below the map) and then click "Become the Web Editor of this Page," read the information given there, complete the form, and click the "Submit" button.
The Web Editor is then able to enter correct information for all to see!
Hooray for the 45 parishes who have sent in their 2011 audit materials! These were due by August 31.
If your parish hasn't filed this report yet and has permission to use the booklet, be sure you're using the one for the 2011 audit. It is no longer available online (having been replaced by the one for the 2012 audit, due August 31, 2013) and is NOT the one in the Diocesan Paperwork Notebook refill packet being distributed at the fall convocation meetings.
If you need a copy of the correct booklet, contact Lynn Robertson at [email protected] or 540-342-6797 or 800-346-7982.
