WE APPLAUD NFL
for Peterson suspension

All cases of child abuse are tragic. Unfortunately, it happens more often than we'd like inside and outside of the home.  We would like to applaud the National Football League for suspending Adrian Peterson without pay for allegedly abusing his son and violating their personal conduct policy.

Parents have a tough job when it comes to teaching children right from wrong, but the goal is always to be a loving role model and consistent disciplinarian. Physically harming a child is not a loving act. In fact, brain science demonstrates the significant effects child maltreatment has on the developing brain.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study, funded in part by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shows that angry and aggressive acts against children cause long-lasting negative effects well into adulthood.

In this case, Peterson uses a "switch" to hit his son as a form of discipline- a regular occurrence in his extended family. However, hitting a child with a "switch" is not discipline.  It is abuse.
