Baby dies in hands of frustrated adult
NH makes PURPLE hats to spread infant abuse prevention education to new parents

"Shortly after arriving at Children's Hospital, we were told that Devin had been shaken by someone and that his injuries were so traumatic, he would not survive. On Father's Day morning, Devin was shaken in a fit of rage by a person who could not deal with his crying. Instead of reaching out for help from a family member or putting Devin down in his crib for a few minutes and walking away, the individual violently shook Devin thinking that he would stop crying." - Bob Logan

Frustration with a crying infant is the number one trigger for the shaking and abuse of infants. This summer, knitters across the state (and country) will be clicking their knitting needles together to make purple-colored baby caps for the CLICK for Babies, Period of PURPLE Crying Caps campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness about normal infant crying and the prevention of shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma.

Join us at this Saturday June 28th event, as knitters and crocheters keep busy hands while Bob Logan shares his heart-wrenching story of his grandchild's death after being shaken by a frustrated adult. He takes a firm stand on infant abuse prevention education and supporting the Period of PURPLE Crying.

CLICK for Babies is an international campaign to spread awareness of the Period of PURPLE Crying, an infant abuse prevention program that NH Children's Trust leads in The Granite State.

The grassroots campaign invites knitters, crocheters, and crafters to make purple colored baby caps that will be delivered to families in November and December with the Period of PURPLE Crying program.  The Period of PURPLE Crying is an evidence-based program that educates parents about normal infant crying, ways to cope with the crying and the dangers of reacting in frustration by shaking or abusing an infant.

In New Hampshire, the Period of PURPLE Crying education reaches 80% of new parents - teaching them about a developmental stage of increased crying infants go through from 2 to 6 months.

Come to a knit-in in your area! Hang out with us and knit or crochet hats for infant abuse prevention. Each hat will be washed, bagged and distributed to hospitals around the state. It then goes home with new parents as a reminder of the developmental stage of increased crying, the Period of PURPLE Crying.

Supporting new parents and keeping infants safe from harm can seem like too big a task for any one person to take on.  The CLICK for Babies campaign offers a small but significant way for knitters and crocheters to do both those things.
