We moved to Concord when I was seven-months pregnant with two toddlers.  It was January and a very cold and snowy winter.  I felt very isolated in a new town with no friends or, what seemed like, no way to meet anyone.  

Recently, I literally took a drive down "memory lane." Upon traveling through my old neighborhood, I discovered I had been much more connected to the community than I even realized.

There I was, home from the hospital, with a 4-day-old baby boy - my first child. I was 40-years-old, unemployed after over 20 years working full-time, and holding a wailing infant. The phrase, "Now what do I do," echoed in my thoughts. Not only had my focus changed dramatically from myself to the well-being of my child, but I felt exhausted and in over my head.

 

As I think back, I was also feeling isolated, undereducated in the "ways" of motherhood and inadequate. Not only was I concerned what others would think of me, I was afraid of how I would judge myself...
