Let's stop abuse before it starts
Every day, 3 more NH children are abused in their own home
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, we encourage all individuals and organizations to play a role in making New Hampshire a better place for children and families. By ensuring parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote children's social and emotional well-being and prevent the cycle of child maltreatment within families and communities.
There are many ways NH residents can help make a difference during this month.

Donate today
We rely on donations to lead the drive toward eliminating child abuse and neglect.
In 2013 we:
     - Brought the Protective Factors to life in web-based and face-to-face trainings across NH. And, 100% of online participants would recommend it to others!
     - Recruited 3 more hospitals to train parents in infant abuse prevention techniques to cope with infant crying.
     - Did 22 presentations to 800 community leaders and service providers.
- Launched an online, searchable database of home visiting providers and family resource centers. This was the #3 most visited page on our website ALL YEAR, despite launching in August!
See our 2013 Annual Report for more details on who we are and what we do.

How to protect families and children
Strengthening Families Protective Factors
Each week, we will publish a blog post of a personal story from staff, board or community members for each of the 5 Strengthening Families Protective Factors.
Research shows, when parents possess protective factors, the risk for neglect and abuse diminish and optimal outcomes for children, youth, and families are promoted. The protective factors are:

* Knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development
* Parental resilience
* Social connections
* Concrete supports for parents
* Social and emotional developmental well-being
