CONCORD - Governor Maggie Hassan will honor four local parents as New Hampshire's Unsung Heroes during an annual ceremony at the State House.

As part of N.H.'s Parent Recognition Month, Donna Coraluzzo, of Dover, Tracy Walbridge, of Rochester, Heidi Hilton, of Somersworth, and Donald Reinhold, of Seabrook, were nominated and selected as parents who overcome challenges and remain role models to their families and communities.

The 6th Annual Unsung Heroes Awards Ceremony is on Tuesday, February 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the N.H. State House. Twenty-eight parents from the state will be honored by New Hampshire Children's Trust and the governor.

In the past 5 years, the N.H. Children's Trust honored 147 parents in partnership with the Governor's office.

Parents nominated could be a biological parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, foster or adoptive parent.

The selection committee reviewed the nominations searching for evidence that parents demonstrate a strong understanding of the five Protective Factors and are role models in their families and communities.  Protective factors are the foundation of the nationally promoted Strengthening Families Approach. This research-based, cost-effective strategy is used to increase family strengths, enhance child development and reduce child abuse and neglect.

Each honoree receives a framed certificate, a photo of their recognition and a gift bag with items donated by local businesses. Contact us for more information.
