Is Now A Good Time?

By Chris Cochran, Director

Our clients and talent are always curious to hear what's going on with the job market. Is now a good time to be looking for a new job? Yes, it's a candidate's market.

We're experiencing lots of good candidates coming to us who are telling us they feel like it's time for a change. They all have their own reasons, but it's apparent that now, more than anytime in the last seven to eight years, people aren't clinging to their current job out of fear. To many, the recession has ended and it's time to get looking for that next great gig. If you haven't gotten in touch with us, now is the time!

Another sign of the good times is that people are involved in multiple searches at one time and they're receiving offers - they're getting to choose which one to accept. Also, companies are counter offering once they have an employee give notice. My personal thought on counter offers is that it's not good to accept them. People take the counter because the company typically throws more money at them. Money is nice, no doubt. But, that's not usually what was behind the original decision to leave. If you've decided to make a change because you thought your life needed it, I'd recommend following through on that promise to yourself.

Lastly, we've been having a high number of conversions. People who go into a role as a freelancer are being asked to join the company full-time. The word "conversion" refers to the switch that occurs when an employee goes from our payroll to our client company's payroll. We're always happy for people when that occurs. We set out to make big and small differences in the lives of our clients and talent and a conversion is an affirmation that we've contributed to each of their successes.
