The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Navigating ObamaCare
Dave Huestis, J.D.
Several weeks ago I attended a seminar on healthcare reform. It started at 7:30 in the morning, and I will confess to having been in desperate need of caffeine as the moderator fielded questions in advance of the event. Out of the corner of my ear I heard:
"If I stop offering healthcare will the government give it to my employees for free?"
Well that woke me up.
Beginning the first of next year, central elements of President Obama's healthcare overhaul will take effect. And while few employers are as misinformed as the questioner I overheard, there is a considerable amount of confusion surrounding the law's implementation. Although most employers are aware of the law's basic requirements - large employers must offer health insurance or pay a penalty and individuals must obtain coverage - the details are complex and penalties for noncompliance can be severe.
In navigating the new law, employers must understand rules regarding large employer status, employee classification, coverage adequacy and affordability, nondiscrimination, tax penalties and much much more. At Portfolio Creative we can help employers large and small limit costs and avoid penalties. To hear about options for your firm, give us a call at 614-839-4897.

Clean The Clutter - Three Tips to Better Delegation
Catherine Lang-Cline, Owner
"Why does delegation often prove so difficult? Sometimes it's a fear of the work not being done correctly, other times it's a lack of anyone with the proper skills to get the job done. Often poor follow-up or having no clearly articulated expectations have led to poor outcomes in the past. Yet, delegation is such a powerful productivity tool it bears repeated attempts despite past results."

Color Matters: How Your Clothing Can Influence a Job Interview or Meeting
Kristen Harris, Owner
"The next time you're preparing for a meeting, interview or presentation, take a moment to consider what message you need to send your audience and which colors would convey that message clearly. Subtle color psychology can help get your point across, and could make a real difference in how you are perceived."

What Do You Want To Do?
Chris Cochran, Director of Client Services
"What do you want to do?" If you're seeking a new opportunity, this one question obviously helps us understand the ideal role for you. But, it also helps us understand who you are. Your answer should provide a wealth of information.
It tells us what you're good at doing as you recall your past successes. We often hear people lead with, "I've always enjoyed and have been good at..." As you explain, specific results of your work and achievements can be shared and put into context without coming off as bragging. Many candidates will say that they don't want to toot their own horn...I say, toot your horn! If ever there was a time to talk about how good you are, it's now.
Your personality can shine through with a great answer and can communicate why you do what you do. Lessons you've learned along the way can also pop up in your answer. Dare I say you can demonstrate the wisdom you've acquired over the years? You've certainly heard enough times that you should love what you do. Now's your chance to tell people why.
Finally, you can demonstrate your drive and ambition. It was mentioned above that this question can lead you to share your past. But, the question is all about what's next for you. Your embrace of change and your eagerness to begin a new chapter in your life can be thrilling. The people who passionately express what they want to become are some of the most interesting people in the world. I want to work with them.
