Greetings!
Welcome to April! We're excited to announce that we've been named one of the Healthiest Employers in Central Ohio by Columbus Business First. Portfolio Creative ranked 4th in our category (small companies, under 100 employees) as determined by a web-based survey focused on six key areas of workplace wellness. Meanwhile, our Philanthropy Committee, Creative Next, is pleased to present our second annual drive. We're counting on you, our fellow creatives, to help inspire and encourage creativity in our community. This year we're collecting computer equipment for the kids at Run the Race Club. This wonderful organization provides after-school and Saturday programs to inner-city young people. The center focuses on creativity and this year will have an art room, a bike repair workshop and a garden. With your used laptop, tablet or printer donation, over 150 kids will be able to learn web design skills and do their homework. Read more about Run the Race, our drive and how to participate here.

Our Relationship
Chris Cochran, Director
You and I should be friends. We have a lot in common, you know. For starters, we both work in the creative space and that means we more than likely know some of the same people.
So many times people will tell me that they enjoy what they do because they get to work with others who are talented, inspiring or fun. I love to hear that because I know there are lots of great personalities out there that impact our business in a positive way. As a recruiter it's my job to understand who all those folks are and what it is they're great at doing.
Gaining greater insight to our business and the roles that exist can be accomplished by talking with one another. I like talking about great products and services because it's more fun than criticizing. Plus, on average, here at Portfolio Creative we're usually working on 45-50 different types of opportunities at any given time.
If something is a fit with you, great! If not, it's cool to be the person who can help out another friend with a valuable heads-up. If you haven't shared an opportunity that someone else may have an interest in, especially one that has resulted in a new job, you're missing out on one of life's sweeter treats.
Knowing people like me, an executive recruiter, is helpful for your career. But, simply knowing people in your business can lead to your individual and company success. My anecdote: I was considering joining a company and was impressed when I heard that a Creative Director I had known for eight years worked at this place. My relationship and respect for this person is what pulled me further into the company. Then, this person ended up being a referral for me. I never placed this person at a job in those previous eight years. I just thought it was good to know them because I liked them and here I ended up benefiting from it.
Let's face it, jobs don't tell you about themselves, your friends and colleagues do. And great ideas that improve a company's bottom line originate with the people they're lucky to hire and retain. It all comes back to people, which is why I expect that we would have success working together as long as we've gotten to know each other. You and I should be friends.
