How a Staffing Company Can Help You with the Affordable Care Act

Catherine Lang-Cline, Owner

"Get ready business owners. The Affordable Care Act officially goes into effect in 2014.  Do you know how to respond?  Many business owners are starting to have concerns about being able to afford new staff members or even continuing to support existing members of their own team because they're worried about the burden of additional healthcare insurance and penalties that can be charged.  You may not have considered this option, but involving a staffing company in your business can head off problems and set your mind at ease.  Here are some specific ways a staffing company can help."

Entering the Danger Zone: Handling Tough Job Interview Questions

Kristen Harris, Owner

"When interviewing, remember that everything you say--every question you ask, and every answer you give--is being viewed through the interviewer's filter. They want to know not only if you'll be a good employee, but good for their company in the role they need to fill. No question is simply information-gathering, your answers give them insight into how you think, act and view yourself."

Three Things That Get You An Offer

Chris Cochran, Director

"Job descriptions are the way most companies try to attract the best people into their business. Yet they quite often fall short of their lofty goal. The written descriptions aren't good marketing pieces and the information that's provided is often insufficient. The usual process is someone from the hiring team outlines the basics and sends it on to HR with the note, 'Here, this should be enough.'"

Green Tip

Snow Removal

Before you bust out the salt and gas-guzzling snow blower, look into these environment-friendly substitutes:

*Use an alternative like birdseed or sand to provide extra traction for walking. Just use sand sparingly so it doesn't clog the sewer once washed away.

*Gas snow blowers cause air and noise pollution. If you choose to use a snow blower, go for an electric model.

* Using calcium magnesium-acetate based de-icers take a huge load off the environment as regular sodium chloride rock salt can release heavy metals, which can damage the water supply. The excess salt also builds up in the soil surrounding your driveway, preventing your plants from absorbing the nutrients they need.

*Dig out the shovel or pay a neighborhood kid to help you out. If you're doing it yourself, look for a push-designed shovel as opposed to a lift kind. The latter puts more of a burden on your muscles. Instead, push the snow across your driveway and use the edge to scrape ice.
