Greetings!,
Events are hard work! There is a great deal of preparation that goes into creating an event, marketing the event and then managing it during its duration. Committees of volunteers and those involved with whichever organization is hosting the event work hundreds and hundreds of hours to ensure the success of said event. The Pier 60 Sugar Sands Festival is half way over and still bringing joy to thousands of visitors every day. My hat goes off to all who worked tirelessly on this awesome event.
If you have not had the opportunity to take a stroll through this wonderful exhibit, please make a point to do so before it is over on April 13th. The sculptors have created the most amazing display of iconic movie themed and artistically displayed sand castles. This is a very enjoyable festival for old and young alike. The vendors of Pier 60 Daily Festival have been lining the Pier for 12 hours a day during the 10 day event as well. What a wonderful experience for our visitors to the beach to discover when they arrive.
Thank you to Lisa & Steve Chandler, Brenna Farley, Jean Hagan, the City of Clearwater, the Sponsors and all the many volunteers who have made this event possible. The Sugar Sands Festival will become an historical event for Clearwater Beach and we have them to thank for this.
Let the sunshine in!
Darlene Kole

On Sunday March 30th Rotary held their Meals of Hope event where they packed over 37,000 meals in under 2 hours! Holy Trinity Church with its hall and adjoining gymnasium proved to be a fantastic venue and its parishioners instrumental in getting this done. Everyone enjoyed the event and many deserving families will be assisted right here in the Clearwater area.

It was great participating with Hoyt, Alex, and Tina and church parishioners from 5 to 85! Our very own Mayor Cretekos donned the requisite hair-net and packed meals for the hungry. Of course, he also spoke very eloquently to the group as always.

From Donna's Corner of The Beach...
Wow! What an exciting time it is on Clearwater Beach. The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival is drawing great crowds and eliciting kudos from visitors. It's even more fun this year with the Pier 60 vendors and buskers and movies going on throughout. This really shows off our beach at its best. Make sure you plan to take it all in sometime before (or on) the 13th. We've been so busy with this extended Spring Break period that we forget to take a break to enjoy what we have happening out our front door. Visitors spend big bucks to see our world famous beach. Even with the traffic and crowds, pause and feel grateful for all we have here. It's a great life at the beach! With sand between my toes, donna

Palm Pavilion Celebrates 50 Years!
|
This postcard features a miniature golf course built by the Hamilton family after they purchased the Palm Pavilion. The course has since been removed.
|
Announcements made on April Fool's Day are often questioned if real or not. If the Hamilton family promoted April 1st as the start of their 50th year of ownership of the Palm Pavilion, would anyone believe the story? Adding to the decision to take a low-key approach to this special day, was it fell during the height of spring break. The belief that their customer's experience come first and there will be plenty of time later to take a look back at half a decade.
Apparently a handful of long-time employees did not get that memo. At mid-day surrounded by their staff, Jean Hamilton along with her sons Ken, Dale, Wade and Hoyt took a few moments to reminisce about her husband and their father and Howard's dream of one day owning the Palm Pavilion.
The Hamilton family would like to thank all of those who have made the first 50 years so successful. Here's to many sunsets to come!

Tampa Bay Parenting Summer Fair Trade Show
The Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine Summer Fair was really beneficial to the Beach Chamber members who I represented this past Sunday. I was so pleased at the response I received from the attendees, they love Clearwater Beach! Moms, dads and kids all flocked to our table to gather up information on all that is fun in the sun! Busch Gardens was in attendance with little fury guests, young chorale groups sang, there was a concert by another young group, and the tap dancers were infectious! There were 50 vendors at this outdoor event held at the Straz Center in downtown Tampa, which is a lovely setting backed by the Hillsborough River. Parents and families came out in full force for this 7th annual summer fair, looking for fun ways to fill up their summer. Hopefully next year I will have double the participation from our Beach Chamber members. We are loved on Clearwater Beach and this is a great way to be in front an audience looking for ways to spend summer dollars!
