Architects included Hugh Stubbins, Royal Barry Wills, and Verner Johnson, Actual sites are described and photographed in the program, with their functional and space requirements. The required drawings to be submitted were plans, elevations, sections, structural details, and outline specifications. The jury awarded a number of awards in each category, which are shown in this folio sized volume. This is one of the best collections of Art Deco retail designs, if not the best, we've seen. Some of the buildings included in Part One include: The Waldorf-Astoria offices, The Chrysler Building, and The Chicago Board of Trade. His urban design ideas incorporated stepped-back buildings, pedestrian bridges, and upper level terraces. This collection of architectural renderings and ideas was deemed "more magic than faery itself," "appealing as a work of art, magically stirring in prophecy." The architect was called "A poet...an artist who can translate into terms of steel, skyscrapers the soaring hopes and aspirations of men."
