GOVERNOR HASLAM PROCLAIMS APRIL AS

SAFE DIGGING MONTH

April marks the start of the spring digging season, so Tennessee 811 and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam are encouraging Tennessee residents to call 811 before starting any digging projects. Doing so can help prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

Governor Bill Haslam recently signed a proclamation observing April, 2015, as Safe Digging Month in Tennessee. Safe Digging Month is dedicated to increasing awareness of safe digging practices across Tennessee and reminding professional excavators and homeowners to call 811 before starting any outdoor digging projects.

According to the association, Common Ground Alliance, one underground line, Electric, Gas, Communications, water or sewer, is damaged by digging every six minutes nationwide because an excavator did not call 811.

Tennessee 811 is planning a statewide advertising campaign throughout the month of April to promote Safe Digging Month.

Can You Dig It?

As part of our Safe Digging Month celebration, Tennessee 811 has joined with 20 other state One-Call Centers and I Wear Your Shirt (IWYS) in presenting, "Can You Dig It?".

"Can You Dig It?" is a month long contest, during which, participants have lots of fun and learn all about Call 811.

There are LOTS of great prizes to win and all of you are eligible to play.  You will need a Facebook or Twitter account to participate.

All you have to do is go to www.safedigging.me starting on April 1st to get started.  Go check it out and start digging to win prizes, but watch out for that pesky Gary the Gopher!

The contest runs through April 30th.

Good Luck!

811 Partner Stickers Posted at Lowes in Columbia

Thanks to the efforts of Columbia Gulf Transmission, the new 811 Partner stickers have been posted at several locations inside the Lowes in Columbia.

Dale Hinson, with Columbia Gulf Pipeline, met with Charles Stanley, a manager at the Lowes in Columbia, and explained the importance of calling 811 before you dig.

Dale then requested permission to post some 811 stickers in the areas of the store where people who are digging might notice them. Charles was very open to posting the 811 Partner stickers and agreed that it was a good idea.

Dale, along with Kathy Quartermaine of Tennessee 811, then posted the 811 Partner stickers at several locations throughout the store. Stickers were posted at the Lowes Professional Services Desk and in the plumbing, fencing, mailboxes and gardening areas.

Dale has also received permission to post the new 811 Partner stickers in the ACE Hardware store and at DJ Equipment Rentals in Columbia.
