Tennessee811 Salutes all our Veterans

Tennessee 811 salutes all our Veterans. Thank you for your selfless service to our country, and we salute the families of our veterans too.

Too often we take holidays for granted - often, if we're honest, looking at them as a day off from work. I know that for many years that's exactly how I looked at Veteran's Day. Sure my dad served in the Navy during World War II, but somehow, that never really hit home with me, it was just a part of my dad. That all changed when my nephew became a Marine and served 2 tours in Iraq. It made me realize not only what our service members go through in time of war, but also I learned what an emotional toil the families of these brave & proud men and women struggle through. Well, I certainly don't take Veteran's day for granted anymore. No American should. I thought it might be interesting to share with you the history of Veteran's Day.

CGA Safety Community Service Award

The Education & Marketing Committee's Communications Task Team is excited to announce that the CGA Safety Community Service Award toolkit is now available on call811.com.

Led by Larry Stansifer (BP Pipelines) and Kathy Quartermaine (Tennessee 811), the task team worked with CGA Member Mark Newman ( Columbia Pipeline Group - NiSource) to create a program that recognizes youth organizations when they consider safe digging practices as part of their community service projects.

The CGA Safety Community Service Award can be earned by documenting that a call to the local one call center was made before a scheduled digging activity. Young adults from organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA and others are eligible for the CGA Safety Community Service Award for practicing safe digging practices when they conduct a community service project.  A CGA volunteer is responsible for submitting the Safety Community Service Award form to CGA for certification.

For a complete overview of the program, including a template outreach letter to youth organizations, forms for certifying the award and obtaining award badges and ribbons, please download the Safety Community Service Award toolkit from call811.com.

If you have questions about the CGA Safety Community Service Award program, or if you'd like to submit a completed award form to CGA, please email: kids@commongroundalliance.com.
