K-12 is where it's at ....

Florida Green Schools Network Sustainable Florida is proud to be part of the Florida Green School Network along with the Florida Departments of Environmental Protection, Education and Health. Five years ago, the Florida Legislature created the Florida Green School Awards, which have documented savings totalling more than $66 million since 2008.

Congratulations to the finalists for Florida Green School Awards presented below. The Florida Green School Awards dinner will take place Wednesday, October 8th at the Streamsong Resort. Details are below on how you can get involved. Make your reservations this week at Streamsong Resort and stay for  Working on the Green Sustainability Summit presented by Mosaic on October 8-9. Registration includes the annual Best Practice Awards lunch program.

In related news, climate change is in the news at both the national and state levels. A march in New York over the week brought out hundreds of thousands. In Florida, scientists called for a summit. With the federal Environmental Protection Agency proposing a rule that calls for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 38%, Florida will need to develop a plan that is rational, effective and makes economic sense.

Joining us at Working on the Green will be former Florida Energy Office Director Jeremy Susac and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Florida Director Susan Glickman to discuss what it will take for Florida to address this rule and what it will take to meet these expectations.

Now more than ever, Florida has the chance to chart a more sustainable course for its future. With constitutional amendments and a heated race for the Governor's mansion, residents and visitors will be bombarded with messages about the future of Florida.

We encourage you to become involved and engaged in these conversations. Make your reservations now

We continue to update our website calendar and Facebook page with other great events. We invite you to join us.

All the best -

Florida Green School Awards
Finalists Named
From the desk of the Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart:

Florida schools and districts have established themselves, both in Florida and nationally, as leaders of green school initiatives. We support these efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs; improve the health and wellness of students and staff; and provide effective environmental and sustainability education (including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics [STEM]; civic skills; and green career pathways).
