YOUTH & FAMILY EDUCATION & PROGRAMMING

SHABBAT BUDDIES
A program for teens that are willing to buddy up on Shabbat!
Shabbat Buddies is a Shabbat morning program that matches teenagers in the Temple Israel Center community with children of varying abilities. Teens engage in training, which allows them to integrate all children into their appropriate age level Shabbat morning service. This program enables our Shabbat morning services to be fully inclusive.  In addition, some of our Shabbat Buddies serve as greeters or assistants to our service leaders, and all serve as role models to children and adults alike.

SISTERHOOD

BOOK GROUP
The TIC Sisterhood Book Group welcomes both men and women. We meet year-round approximately every six weeks, rotating both a host's home and the discussion leader (this is not a requirement for participation in the group).

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 25, at 7:45 p.m. at the home of Minda Feinberg. We will discuss Alice Hoffman's novel, The Marriage of Opposites, which tells the story of painter Camille Pissarro and the unconventional romance of his parents. If you have questions or would like to be added to the book group e-mail list, please contact Dvora Feuerwerker.

NEW! SISTERHOOD COOKBOOK INITIATIVE:
LET MY PEOPLE COOK
Calling all cooks!
We would love for you to be part of the first ever TIC Sisterhood-sponsored Passover cookbook. We need your recipes-your old favorites, your children's favorites and any modern twists on the classics.  We need your recipes for breakfast, appetizers, dairy-free, egg-free, and gluten-free dishes, desserts, fish, meat, poultry, salads, soups, Sephardic, vegan, and vegetarian. Our cookbook will include wine pairings for many of the dishes so oenophiles are encouraged to contribute their suggestions as well.  All recipes must be Kosher for Passover (under either Ashkenazi or Sephardi traditions) and never published before.

We look forward to reading your recipes and sharing them with our community.

MAH JONGG
Weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm
All are welcome - from complete beginners to experienced players, including men!  We play for charity/tzedakah... one game at a time.  You need not  be a Sisterhood or TIC member to join us!  Contact Helene Becker to be added to our weekly email scheduling notifications.

SUPPORT TIC MOURNERS

Minyanim will be in the evenings at various times, depending on the time of year and the family's needs.

If you are interested in supporting our community through this important act of hesed, please contact Judy Gilberg or Caren Zelicof.

New-York Historical Society Special Exhibit
When we must look to history to address the human rights crises that continue to plague our world, our next exhibit opening at the Museum is especially relevant today. This thought-provoking exhibition traces the indoctrination of citizens, both non-Jewish and Jewish, through words and images that were seen daily in Germany. Included is Hitler's original outline of a 1939 speech that he gave to the Reichstag about the "Jewish Question," announcements of mass meetings dictating the exclusion of Jews, anti-Semitic books and signs, as well as an original printing of the Nuremberg Laws, which laid the legal foundation for Hitler's Holocaust.

The materials on display, drawn from the collection of the Museum of World War II, Boston, will convey to visitors the dangers of ignoring or discounting anti-Semitic discourse, as well as of underestimating the role of propaganda in denying racial and religious groups their right to live without fear of violence. The exhibition also speaks to how New York and America's demographic changed substantially in the wake of European anti-Semitism, underscoring the old adage about the importance of history: how it is impossible to understand who we are today without knowing from where we came.
