October Programs at Woman Made |
 | | Installation by Jenyu Wang - Invite design by Erin Waser |
Thesis, an exhibition of 2014 women graduates from MFA programs in Chicago features works by seven artists and is curated by Emanuel Aguilar in collaboration with Ruby Thorkelson. Aguilar is Assistant Director at Kavi Gupta Gallery and WMG's exhibition preparator. He previously worked for Chicago's Jean Albano Gallery and A & D Gallery, has curated several exhibitions, and helped found the online arts magazine, 'Jettison.'
While the work itself mixes media, genres, cultures, and origins, the exhibition as a whole will serve as an artistic representation of border crossing for young women artists as they leave the support network and structure of their programs. Exhibiting artists are Jessica Campbell, Bronwen Lee, Melissa Myser, Janna van Hasselt, Jenyu Wang, Julie Weber, and Sara J. Winston.
WMG's exhibitions are part of Chicago Artists Month 2014, the 19th annual celebration of Chicago's vibrant art community presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. For more information, visit www.chicagoartistsmonth.org.
The main floor of WMG is wheelchair accessible.

 | | Installation by Cat Del Buono |
Voices by Cat Del Buono features an installation of several small monitors, on which anonymous domestic violence survivors recount personal experiences of abuse. Together, the multiple voices create a symphony of unrecognizable words. Only when viewers come closer and focus on an individual screen do they become aware of the installation's topic and the individual subject's story.
In her statement, Del Buono writes, "As a society, we must not allow the epidemic of domestic violence and those who are affected by it to remain an invisible and inaudible crowd of statistics."
Thanks to the Baang & Burne New Works Grant, New York based artist Cat Del Buono was able to create this project. Trained as a photographer and filmmaker, Del Buono now focuses on creating video installations and public happenings that focus on gender issues.
The reception for Voices and concurrent exhibition Thesis, is September 5 from 6 to 9pm. There will also be a panel discussion on Saturday, October 25, from 2 to 4 p.m., in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization founded in 1992. Its goal is to support, cultivate, and promote the diverse contributions of women in the arts through exhibitions and other programs that serve, educate, and enrich our community.
A small staff, interns and volunteers, and a dedicated group of board members and advisers are the heart and soul of the Gallery. WMG relies on membership contributions and individual donations to create the programs that support its mission.
Woman Made Gallery is supported in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; a CityArts Program II grant from the City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs; the Arts Work Fund for Organizational Development, a donor-advised fund of the Chicago Community Trust; the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation; The Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Fund; a major anonymous donor; and the generosity of its members and contributors.
WE CANNOT DO OUR IMPORTANT WORK WITHOUT YOUR HELP!
