Opening Reception: Friday, July 11, 6-9 p.m.

Juried by Carolina Caycedo, "Contained" invited artists to interpret the idea of containment in its literal, physical, and transient forms, exploring the organic and man-made limits, borders, and boundaries of place, space, and time.
Included are photography, mixed media, painting, printmaking, video, and installation works by Hiba Ali, Monica Balc, Kevin Bell, Colby Beutel, Cassidy Bingham, Melanie Deal, Felicia Diaz, Kyra Garrigue, Martha Hopkins, Nicole Lane, Catalina Barroso Luque, Marina Miliou-Theocharaki, Tracy Ostmann, Mary Phelan, Mabi Ponce de León, Gina Robbins, Julia Samuels, Shelley Stevens, Nalani Stolz, Denise Treizman, Arlene Tribbia, Dot Vile, Dana West, and Ashleigh Wink.
The juror, Carolina Caycedo is a Los Angeles-based artist, of Colombian and British background. She engages with issues and contexts that affect a broad public on an everyday level. In her work, art functions as a pretext for offering up utopian models to inhabit a world in which individuals and communities are increasingly subject to commodification, exploitation, and discrimination. She has developed publicly engaged projects in Bogotá, Madrid, San Juan, New York, San Francisco, and London amongst other places.
The group show "Contained" is wheelchair accessible.

Please join us for a reading of poems on the theme of "Boxes" on Sunday, August 3rd from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Boxes can be filled with any number of things. Likewise, the poets for this reading approach the theme from as many angles as one could imagine: boxed in, outside the box, container and contained, categories as boxes, the black box, Cornell boxes, gifts and deliveries boxes, inclusion and exclusion. Poets will come from in and out of the box marked Chicago.
All poetry events are organized and hosted by noted writers and poets who are members of Woman Made Gallery. The current poetry series is curated by Nina Corwin and documented by Kurt Heintz. Poetry events are free and open to the public with light refreshments served. For questions please contact WMG at gallery@womanmade.org.

Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization founded in 1992. Its goal is to support, cultivate, and promote the diverse contributions of women in the arts through exhibitions and other programs that serve, educate, and enrich our community.
A small staff, interns and volunteers, and a dedicated group of board members and advisers are the heart and soul of the Gallery. WMG relies on membership contributions and individual donations to create the programs that support its mission.
Woman Made Gallery is supported in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; a CityArts Program II grant from the City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs; the Arts Work Fund for Organizational Development, a donor-advised fund of the Chicago Community Trust; the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation; The Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Fund; a major anonymous donor; and the generosity of its members and contributors.
