"Functional objects have a story to tell. Every noticeable sign of wear, every thought that preceded action related to it, and every time it was physically handled the story grows. I believe that as an object is used, a bit of the soul of the user is imprinted forever upon it. This series is a way of reaching into that part of myself that yearns for intimacy and understanding by exploring the psychological and emotional subtext of functional objects." -Kathryn Gauthier

"Organic patterns and forms found in nature have an instinctive draw. The theory of fractal geometry; infinite layers of self-similar shapes repeated in every living thing, hold an endless fascination for me.   These abstracted images pulled from nature could be microscopic or topographic; they could be views from above or from within. The same way a plant grows following the path of least resistance, the quick gestures and simplicity of working with ink allows the low of least resistance to prevail as the ink finds its path across the paper. With this process, I work intuitively through thousands of brushstrokes creating hundreds of small paintings. I then collate the work, tearing out images that work together. When I find compositions that intrigue me, I then delve into the longer process of collage, taking time to digest the image." -Allison Svoboda

Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization founded in 1992. Its goal is to support, cultivate, and promote the diverse contributions of women in the arts through exhibitions and other programs that serve, educate, and enrich our community.

A small but hard-working staff, helpful interns and volunteers, and a dedicated group of board members and advisers are the heart and soul of the Gallery. WMG relies on membership contributions and individual donations to create the programs that support its mission.

Woman Made Gallery is supported in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; a CityArts Program II grant from the City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs; the Arts Work Fund for Organizational Development, a donor-advised fund of the Chicago Community Trust; the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation; The Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Fund; a major anonymous donor; and the generosity of its members and contributors.
