What better way to celebrate 20 years of work for women artists than to highlight the creations of 20 past jurors who have helped put some of the Gallery's fine shows together?

There have been hundreds of exhibitions, with numerous jurors, who all play an important part in WMG's history. This exhibition is just a small example of the rich and diverse artistic repertoire WMG is pleased to showcase.

Included are paintings by Julie Karabenick, Joyce Owens, and Kathleen Waterloo; photography by Barbara Crane, Whitney Bradshaw, and Leah Oates; sculpture and fiber works by Pritika Chowdhry, Melissa Jay Craig, Betsy Odom, Corinne D. Peterson, and Indira Freitas Johnson; mixed media works by Karen Bondarchuk, Cat Chown, Fujiko Isomura, Monica Ong, Dorothy Simpson Krause, Catherine Blackwell Peņa, and Mary Stoppert; and video and new media works by Colette Gaiter and Laura Anderson Barbata.

Poetry Reading at WMG

There are people who work tirelessly to create opportunities for other artists and writers to get their work out in front of the world - the editors, curators and people who staff arts organizations. Although some are better known for opening doors, many of these people have vibrant writing practices of their own. This reading will provide an opportunity to get to know the poetry of several such women.

Featured readers include Kristy Bowen (dancing girl press), Shanny Jean Maney (the Encyclopedia Show), Jennifer Karmin (Red Rover Series), Emily Rose Kahn-Sheahan (Mental Graffiti, Real Talk Live), Johanny Vazquez Paz (Palabra Pura, Guild Complex, and Susan Yount (Arsenic Lobster, Chicago Poetry Bordello).

Please join us for this free event on Sunday, July 22, 2012, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Woman Made Gallery.

Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization founded in 1992. Its goal is to support, cultivate, and promote the diverse contributions of women in the arts through exhibitions and other programs that serve, educate and enrich our community.

A small but hard-working staff, helpful interns and volunteers, and a dedicated group of board members and advisors are the heart and soul of the Gallery. WMG relies on membership contributions and individual donations to create the programs that support its mission.

Woman Made Gallery is supported in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; a CityArts Program II grant from the City of Chicago, Department of Cultural Affairs; the Arts Work Fund for Organizational Development, a donor-advised fund of the Chicago Community Trust; the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation; The Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Fund; a major anonymous donor; and the generosity of its members and contributors.
