'Tis the Season...
I know what you're thinking - this is going to be just another pitch for your holiday shopping dollar, isn't it? I'm going to tell you about what great events we have coming up between now and December 25th, and implore you to bring your whole family out for some great holiday entertainment (and maybe pick up a gift certificate for someone on your Christmas list while you're at it). You probably think I'm going to tell you about how important it is to get out and support the performing arts in Centre Wellington.
But this holiday greeting is going to be different, because I think you deserve a bit more credit. You know we have great shows coming up, and you're receiving this newsletter because you want to hear more about them, right? You don't need me to make the sales pitch one more time.
So instead let me tell you what happens when you do support the performing arts in Centre Wellington. First, you support local businesses - research suggests that for every $1 you spend on a theatre ticket another $5-$7 are pumped into the economy. Second, you support artist-entrepreneurs. The people who rent our theatre aren't exactly the Mirvishes - they are small business owners, many of whom are working tirelessly to build careers for themselves in the performing arts. Third, you support local charities, with many clients staging events to raise money for a variety of causes. In other words, there's a lot of good that comes from you simply enjoying a show.
I've always believed that the arts in general and the performing arts in particular should be used for the purposes of good. Shows must entertain, of course, but they should also make the world a better place, in some small way. As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities that a new year ushers in I hope you will keep us in mind as a place where you can come to have some fun, enjoy some great entertainment, and do a little bit of good.
See you at the theatre,
