Fall Watermain Flushing Scheduled

Watermain flushing will be occurring in the first 2 weeks of October.

Flushing is completed on the municipal water system to enhance water quality. It is completed at night to limit disruption to the consumer.

The flushing process may create discoloured water at the tap.  Running the cold water tap for 5 minutes will usually clear the discoloured water.

Notices and more information can be found on the website and in the local newspaper.
Fall Leaf Pick Up Scheduled

The Township will be picking up bagged leaves only. They must be in paper leaf bags and be placed within one meter of the road edge.
The pickup will be in Elora, Fergus and Salem beginning the week of October 19 and will continue to the week of November 27, 2015.
Leaves raked to the curbside or bags that contain sticks, wood, garden waste, pumpkins or other waste will NOT be picked up.

Winter Parking Restrictions

Street parking is not permitted from November 1 - March 31 between the hours of 2:00 am - 6:00 am. Vehicles found in violation of this policy will be ticketed and or towed away.
Vehicles parked for more than 24 consecutive hours in any municipal parking lot will also be ticketed and/or towed away.
These restrictions are in place to allow Township crews time to conduct winter maintenance.
Boulevard and Sidewalk Parking

As the Township continues to grow, managing parking is important to ensure the roads and sidewalks are safe and easy to navigate.
Parking on grass boulevards and across the sidewalk is not permitted.
Utility trailers/campers are not permitted to be parked on the roadway for more than 24 consecutive hours, and will be towed away at the owner's expense.
Common Water Leaks in the Home

The most common water leak is a running toilet and the issue is most often found in the toilet tank.

The type of leak found can double or triple your water use which can be an unexpected cost on your next water bill.

Other common reasons for high water use are a leaking hot water tank and water softener issues.

Drain from Kitchen Sink
Rowing on the Grand River
Fats, Oils and Grease in Drains

Grease flushed down the kitchen sink can block sewers.
Over time, grease will eventually block an entire pipe, resulting in a plumbing repair and a possible sewage backup causing further damage to a home.
To protect your drains and sewer lateral, use a paper towel to remove cooking grease from pans and dispose of in your household garbage.
Source Water Protection Mandate

Municipalities are mandated to establish Source Protection Plans to ensure safe drinking water.
The Grand River Source Protection Plan applies to the Township of Centre Wellington and the Plan is awaiting approval by the Ontario Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. The Plan is projected to become effective in 2016.
For more information, please visit Wellington Source Water Protection.
Source Water Protection First Step

This fall, Wellington Source Water Protection and the Township will be starting education visits to industrial, commercial and institutional properties located within municipal well heads.
The program is an assessment of activities occurring on these properties to determine their potential impact on municipal wells
