Chairman's Column - May 2015

I was honored to be asked to finish out chairman Wayne Roberts' term starting in May of 2014, before starting my term for 2015. As we all know, Wayne and his wife retired from Pioneer Balloon and moved to Montana.

I was fortunate to have a very knowledgeable and capable President and staff. Our dedicated board of directors and executive committee represent a diverse  cross-section of our member business community. Serving with me on the executive committee for 2014 were Emily Compton, chair elect, Brian Powers Past Chair, Jim Dunning treasurer and Sue Joachims, Secretary.

During my term so far, our monthly meetings have been very relevant and energizing thanks to our president, Tim Witsman. In May, John Tomblin, executive director of NIAR, spoke about NIAR and the innovation Campus at WSU.

In June, Bright and Carpenter our lobbyists updated us on the legislative session and how business had fared.  By employing Natalie Bright and Marlee Carpenter we have had a strong presence at the capitol. We partner with other business groups to advance reforms in areas such as unemployment insurance.

We heard stories of two of our companies, Pioneer balloon and AGH.

Sen. Jerry Moran brought us an informative program focused on national issues.

Scott Ernst, President and CEO of Textron Aviation updated us on private aviation.
