WIBA November 11, 2014 Monthly Luncheon
Paul Allen
Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, L.C.'s |
Wichita CPA and advisory firm Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, L.C.'s (AGH) roots go back more than 75 years. In some ways, the services and expertise the firm offers clients have changed dramatically - now including not only audit and tax, but employee benefits, organizational development and payroll, for example. But some things - like strong client relationships - don't change. AGH chief executive Paul Allen will tell the story of how a traditional CPA firm grew into one of the largest CPA, organizational consulting and advisory companies in the region.
Allen has been AGH's chief executive since 1987 and held leadership positions within KMG Main Hurdman (now KPMG) and then AGH for more than 30 years. Appointed to serve on the Kansas Board of Accountancy for 15 years, including four terms as chairman, Paul has also been an active leader in numerous civic and community organizations. He is currently chair of the United Way of the Plains board, chair-elect of the WSU Foundation's board and a board member of the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, the Salvation Army, WSU's Barton School of Business and the WSU Foundation's National Advisory Council.
The luncheon will be held at the Wichita Boathouse, home of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, 515 S. Wichita St., from 11:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. The cost is $20. Reservations are REQUIRED by Friday, Nov. 7.

Chairman's Column - November 2014 Recommendations for WIBA Members in the 2014 General Election
WIBA partners with the Wichita Area Builders Association and the Wichita Metro Chamber to interview candidates for state and city offices. Following the interviews the Kansas Independent Business PAC (KIBPAC) meets to determine where contributions will be made and which candidates to recommend to the WIBA Board of Directors. Not all candidates who are recommended receive KIBPAC contributions. The KIBPAC Board has control of funds contributed to it and its decisions are the final word on contributions.
KIBPAC's recommendations go to the WIBA Board for final action. All 501(c) organizations cannot endorse candidates. That is considered "grassroots lobbying" and can threaten the nonprofit status of the organization. We can make recommendations to WIBA members.
In some cases the candidate recommended may not be one who votes consistently with our positions. They may be the best that we can expect given the makeup of a district.
Click for the WIBA Board's Recommendations for the election to be held on Tuesday, November 4.
