2014 Biennial Reunion Held in Madison!

The 2014 Biennial Conference: A New Play Book brought more than 400 alumni, students, and friends of the UW Madison Real Estate Program together in September. Congratulations to Andrew Weir (MBA 1997) of HFF, who chaired the outstanding program that featured an exceptional slate of keynote speakers and panels. From Roy March's insightful acceptance speech during the Wisconsin Award Presentation through Friday's jam-packed closing reception, attendees enjoyed plenteous badger networking with old and new friends along with access to leading-edge industry experts.

Wisconsin Award Presented

The 2014 Wisconsin Real Estate Award winner is Roy March, CEO of Eastdil Secured. Roy is recognized for his successes and contributions to the real estate process and for his ability to successfully integrate both a business and social ethic within the real estate process. Mr. March has more than 37 years of real estate experience at Eastdil Secured across financing, sales, acquisition, and capital markets activities in the United States and abroad and serves on various industry, corporate and community boards.  Distinguished Real Estate Alumni Award

Honored for his notable leadership, dedication and service to the WREAA and UW Real Estate Program, Jeff Cavanaugh (MS 1983), Managing Director of Invesco, was presented with the Distinguished Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Award. The award was presented during the Biennial Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Luncheon. Jeff was recognized for his many contributions to the UW-Madison Real Estate Program and Alumni Association, including his service to WREAA through his leadership on the WREAA Board for the past decade, as President from 2010-12 and as Conference Program Chair in 2009 and 2010. Congratulations to Jeff on a well deserved award!

 

WREAA Welcomes New Staff Member

   

The WREAA welcomes Jane Miller who has joined the staff as Administrative Coordinator. A Packer and Badger football enthusiast, Jane comes to the WREAA well suited for her new role! Jane will be handling membership, coordinating regional events, and helping to maintain both database information and website content. Jane and her husband live in Sullivan, Wisconsin. In her free time, Jane enjoys swimming, biking, hiking, traveling and reading.

   
Get Involved in the 2015 Career Fair
The Real Estate Club is excited to announce that plans for the 2015 Career Fair, scheduled for Monday February 16, are well underway! A record number of students are expected to participate and the club's goal is to host at least 40 companies. Companies are encouraged to take this opportunity to interview potential new employees with exceptional preparation from the leading real estate program in the country.  Please contact Jade-lin Chue or Zak Hougland for more information

Minnesota Badgers Network on Lake Minnetonka  

 

Beautiful weather greeted the Minnesota Badgers who met to network and cruise on Lake Minnetonka in August.  Thanks to WREAA Market Rep Anders Pesavento (BBA 2005) of Ryan Companies US for coordinating the event.


 

Illinois Region Hosts UW Students at
Tribune Tower

 

Illinois regional alumni hosted nearly 50 alumni, friends and students for a summer networking reception in August.  The badger group met and mingled on the Magnificent Mile while enjoying cocktails and appetizers at Howells & Hood at the Tribune Tower. Thanks to WREAA Market Rep Andrea Lange, of DBRS, Inc. (BBA 2004) for coordinating the evening!     

   

 




Donations Needed to Replace 

Graaskamp Memorial Bench    

 

Alumni and faculty came together during the 19th Biennial Alumni Reunion to pledge their support in replacing the bench dedicated to Professor Jim Graaskamp, located in the UW Arboretum. Nearly $7,000 of the $10,000 needed was collected from alumni, faculty and friends during the Biennial Reunion. If you would like to help, please visit the UW Foundation Website and specify the Graaskamp Memorial Bench in the gift note field.  All support is appreciated! 

Real Estate Club Tours Milwaukee

The UW Real Estate Club enjoyed a quick but exciting field trip to Milwaukee on September 12th. The group toured Marquette Engineering and Law Schools and was able to explore Ivy on Fourteenth, a new student housing development by Opus. Alum Sean Phelan (MS 1998) treated the Club to a look around Café Bavaria, a trendy restaurant/bar concept developed by Phelan Development. The students concluded the day cheering the Brewers on to a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds following some pre-game networking! Thanks go out Sean Phelan (MS 1998) of Phelan Development, Kris O'Meara (BBA 1980) of Toomarava Partners and Julie Ledger of Opus Development for help in arranging the trip.  

  

2014 Biennial Badger Golf Highlights

Sponsored by HFF, the 2014 Biennial Golf Outing took place at Hawks Landing Golf Club preceding the Biennial Conference and Reunion in September. 22 teams vied for top honors with the top foursome comprised of Gregg Halvorsen, Matthew Reese, Justin Leonard and Jonathan Mirkin. Gregg also received Closest to the Pin award. Brian Douglas earned the Longest Putt Trophy and Tyler Edgarton had the Longest Drive of the day. Congratulations to all! Thanks to Cody Langeness (BBA 2006) of Red Stone Partners and Peter Deanovic (BBA 2006) of CarVal Investors for coordinating the biennial badger outing.

Alan Carmichael (MS 2004) and wife Emily welcomed twin baby boys, Reid and Luke, on July 30 at 10:35 and 10:37 a.m.  Reid was 6 lbs. 4 oz. and Luke was 5 lbs. and 6 oz.  Reid and Luke have a sister named Charlotte.  Alan can be reached at acarmichael@alerellc.com.  Congratulations to the Carmichael family!
