LEADERSHIP CHARLEVOIX COUNTY WELCOMES THE CLASS OF 2016-17

Leadership Charlevoix County is excited to announce its newest class for
2016-17.  The program is entering its sixth year as a comprehensive
training experience for community members seeking to play a more active
role in leadership and their communities.  The program creates community awareness, networking opportunities, and focuses on leadership skill development through educational and hands-on curriculum.

The 21-member class started with an orientation meeting at Boyne Mountain Resort, where they met each other and potential mentors.  Their first class session is a two-day overnight retreat to Beaver Island on September 11-12, followed by one all-day class every month until graduation in May 2017.   More

Chair Yoga - Become more flexible while seated!  Join our free chair yoga class with instructor, Cheryl Jacobs from 11-11:30am every Tuesday at the Wellness Workshop.  Participants of all ages are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and no appointment is necessary.

Strength Training Class - Get in shape; strengthen those muscles while exercising to positive music.  This intermediate level class is a challenging and unique blend of strength and aerobic exercise. Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm starting in September.

We are wrapping up our 9th annual Stuff the Bus on Friday, September 2.  All donations go to LOCAL SCHOOLS.  Donations can be dropped off at the Charlevoix Area Chamber of Commerce.  We will also be at the Charlevoix Kmart on September 2 from 10am-2pm to collect donations.

BAKER COLLEGE APPOINTS CLEAMON MOORER

Baker College has announced the appointment of Cleamon Moorer, Jr., DBA, as dean of the College of Business.

"Dr. Moorer is a uniquely gifted and energetic addition to Baker College," said Bart Daig, PhD., Baker College System president and CEO.  "He is a collaborator, a committed educator and mentor, and he understands firsthand the challenges associated with pursuing college and career."

Moorer holds a bachelor's degree in management from Kettering University, a MBA and a Masters of Science in management and organizational behavior from Benedictine University, and a Doctor of Business Administration in management from Argosy University.

POPULAR ARMCHAIR THEATER ADDS PERFORMANCE 
An encore production of the play "The Diaries of Adam and Eve" by Mark Twain will be performed at a 2:00pm matinee on Sunday, September 4 at the Charlevoix Circle of Arts.

The opening production was performed on Sunday, August 21 receiving a standing ovation by the audience as actors, Desiree Kaiser and Hugh Hansen took their curtain call.

The Arm Chair Theater, now in its fourth season, is offered by the Charlevoix Circle of Arts, as one of its many programs to inspire and educate people in performing arts.

As written by the wise and witty Mark Twain (Author of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn), there were differences between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden long before the appearance of the Serpent.  More

LITTLE BUT MIGHTY BRIDGE WALK
Charlevoix's 28th Annual Little But Mighty Bridge Walk will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th at 1pm, rain or shine.  Proceeds benefit Charlevoix Area Humane Society.  T-shirts are blue this year and are available in sizes S-XL for $15, 2XL for $18 and 3XL for $20.  They can be purchased at the Town House.  Walkers should gather in front of the Town House at 12:30pm and we will be walking to the North side of the bridge at 12:45pm  The walk will begin at 1pm after the bridge has been raised and lowered for boats.

LOOK OUT FOR THE COOK OUT 
The public is invited to North Central Michigan College's 19th annual cookout on Sunday, September 11 from noon to 3pm on the Petoskey campus.  The cookout is a fundraising event for the NCMC Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Attendees will enjoy a picnic-style lunch of pulled pork, hot dogs, corn on the cob, marinated bean salad, quinoa salad and cookie bars.  The Kid Zone in the gym will have four bouncy houses, carnival games, ping pong, tumbling mats for toddlers and other activities.  There will also be a big screen with the football game for parents. Outside, enjoy a live radio remote with Fish from Lite 96, human sim-man, demonstrations and tours of the Fab Lab. There will also be a gift basket raffle.

"HARDWORKING HEROES"
Hardworking Heroes is a gathering of service men and women and their vehicles.  This event will take place at the Farmers Market on Thursday, September 22, from 8am-1pm on the lawn in East Park.

This will be a field trip day for the schools and a chance for the children as well as the public to "Touch the Truck " and "Shake a Hand"  of a hardworking hero.

Working demonstrations:  Hum-V from the National Guard/Camp Graying, Police Vehicle, Michigan State Police vehicle, Fire Truck, Ambulance, US Coast Guard Boat, Sheriff's K-9 team and more.

Local Veterans are invited to attend, in uniform.
The National Anthem will be played at 10am by the Charlevoix High School  Band.

JOIN THE FUN- 4TH ANNUAL DINING FOR PAWS 
On Friday, September 23, folks all over Northwest Lower Michigan will host dinner parties to benefit the Charlevoix Area Humane Society.  Parties can be themed, fancy or just potluck.  A number of area restaurants will also host parties with special dinner rates and a portion of the bill to benefit the CAHS.

Guests should be informed that this is a fundraising event and that the host will solicit a donation from each guest.  At 8pm all are invited to a grand Afterglow Party at the Charlevoix Country Club's historic Shanahan Barn, where we will have desserts prepared by the best area restaurants.  We will announce the fundraising total and celebrate with cocktails and dancing to the live swing dance music of the Pine River Jazz Band.

LEAN LEARNING CONSORTIUM FALL EVENTS 
The newly formed Lean Learning Consortium of Emmet, Charlevoix and Cheboygan counties invites LCC members to two Lean Practice tours this fall.

Friday, Oct 14, 8:30am-12pm at Link Industries in Indian River.  Link Industries open its cutting tool manufacturing operations plant in 1952 and today, is in transition, investing in new equipment, skills training and processes to become more competitive in today's market.  Jeff Veryser will be our host and share Link's progress and challenges in becoming lean.
