GRANT TO HELP UNFUNDED HOSPICE PATIENT NEEDS
Hospice of Northwest Michigan has announced it has received a grant from the Bay Harbor Foundation to be used towards better meeting the immediate unfunded needs of the community in 2016.  Amy Wieland, Executive Director, said the funding will be used to support and to improve the safety and comfort care needs provided to patients that are not covered by insurance.
 
"We are extremely grateful to the Bay Harbor Foundation for recognizing our organization and services as a valued choice that they wanted to support." Wieland said.  The Bay Harbor Foundation funding in conjunction with other donations, will be used to meet the otherwise unfunded needs of Hospice patients in our service regarding patient comfort care and safety. EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER GRANTS AVAILABLE
Emmet County has been awarded $21,934 in Federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program, the Charlevoix County award has not yet been announced but we anticipate it being reduced from last year's level of $17,981 by approximately 22%. These funds will be distributed by a Local Board and are used to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in these counties through March 31, 2017.
 
The award was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the Salvation Army; American Red Cross; United Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; and, United Way of America. CIRCLE OF ARTS SUMMER CAMP SUCCESS
At the Charlevoix Circle of Arts Summer Camp held on July 11-15, Lori Bolt's campers recreated the City of Charlevoix from found objects, presenting a stunning exhibition of their work with iconic structures such as the Charlevoix Public Library, the Villager, the drawbridge that opens and closes (on the half hour) to allow sailboats to pass, and even the Dairy Grille.

The City of Charlevoix is updating its Parks and Recreation Plan. City staff will be working together throughout 2016 to create a plan that addresses the City's recreation needs for today while setting a course for the future. MUNSON HEALTHCARE FARM-TO-TABLE DINNER
A unique Farm-to-Table dinner has been organized in support of Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Foundation. The event will be held Thursday, July 28 at the Jordan Valley Barn in East Jordan. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the hospital's surgery suite and laboratory renovations, which are currently underway. The project will add a third operating room, new pre- and post-operative patient rooms, and an overhaul of the entire surgery and laboratory units to better accommodate the rapid growth in outpatient procedures.This important project will meet the growing needs of the communities, and is part of the hospital's continual effort to provide high-quality, compassionate care

CHARLEVOIX CIRCLE PRESENTS THE LIGHT FANTASTIC
The Atmosphere of Light Through the Performing Arts, Sunday August 7 at the Charlevoix Circle of Arts, 6:30 pm. The theme of this presentation is to reflect the works of forty, regional plein air painters, whose work is currently on display at the Circle of Arts in the exhibition, "Chasing the Light" that runs through August 26.

In different vignettes performed throughout the evening, patrons will be taken on a journey of The Light Fantastic. The Grandview Ensemble will enchant you with selections of music from the plein air painting Impressionist period. Light young voices will perform vocal selections. Actors from the Armchair Theatre will interpret "The Inner Light" works from classic Kahlil Gibran and contemporary playwright and Naomi Shihab Nye.

STARTING A BUSINESS WORKSHOP AT NCMC
Individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment, will have the opportunity to attend a Starting a Business workshop Thursday, August 11 in Petoskey. The workshop is being offered by the Northwest Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in partnership with North Central Michigan College, and is being held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Room 536 of the North Central Student and Community Resource Center, 1515 Howard Street.

The workshop will be facilitated by SBDC Small Business Consultant, Kathleen Bagley. She will help aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company and evaluate market and sales potential for their products or services. More.
