2012 Most Business-Friendly City

 

On November 8, 2012, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation presented the City of Whittier with an Eddy Award for being the Most Business-Friendly City in the large city category (over 60,000 in population). The City is proud of having received this prestigious recognition. Our work in this area will never be done and we will continue to strive to better serve our businesses for the benefit of the entire community.

Whittwood Branch Library Expansion
  
After a year of construction, the Whittwood Branch Library celebrated a grand re-opening on December 1, 2012. The Branch Library was the last Whittier Redevelopment Agency project before the elimination in the State. The Library was expanded from 9,735 to 15,733 square feet and offers a self-checkout, more space for books, more programming for children and adults, and a beautiful high-tech meeting room for community events.
Sprouts Sprouts Farmers Market

A new Sprouts Farmers Market is currently under construction at the corner of Whittier Boulevard and Russell Street and is expected to open by Spring 2013. 
Mosaic Gardens Now Open
Ribbon Cutting Held Oct. 25, 2012
  
On October 25th the City celebrated the grand opening of Mosaic Gardens, a 21-unit affordable family apartment development. The city is proud to have partnered with LINC Housing on this development project as it represents many successes. The new community, located at the corner of Philadelphia Street and Pickering Avenue, has done wonders for the gateway into Uptown Whittier. The project is the first residential development under the Uptown Specific Plan and is beautifully designed in a Mediterranean architectural style with three stories over a one-level parking garage.
