Worksite Wellness, It's Not Just For The Other Guy

 

Take it from me. I have found myself settling in to a very sedentary role.  I can spend hour after hour sitting in front of my computer analyzing health plans and looking for ways to help my client's keep their employees healthy.  I tout active life styles and preventive exams, all free and all do nothing but make people's endorphins soar and feel better both mentally and physically.  But did I practice what I preach? Nope.  I ventured out on a day hike and ended up straining my groin muscle. All that pain could have been avoided if I had just followed my own advice.

E-Verify: The Future of Employment Verification for All?
 
 
While the politics of immigration reform are heatedly debated on Capitol Hill, another issue is quietly brewing behind the scenes that could impact every employer and employee in the United States. Indeed, many are unaware that some proposed bills on immigration mandate the use of E-Verify by every U.S. employer. It is vital that employers understand the benefits and burdens of the E-Verify system as it stands today in order to prepare for the future, and also to decide whether to join E-Verify now or wait to see if it becomes mandatory. 
 


Canada's Experience with Expedited Union Certification

  
My following questions and answers explore the impact on employers of the expedited union certification procedure in Canada. As will be apparent, many of the features of the final rule of the U.S.'s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) concerning Representation Case Procedure Changes are modeled on or resemble the Canadian certification procedures. In particular, the Canadian certification procedure is characterized by a compressed timeline between application and vote, the requirement that parties fully state their positions at the outset of the process, and the deferral of adjudication on disputed issues until after the vote has been conducted.
