Happy Holidays!     Our Chapter has had a very good year. We are thankful for the many new members that have joined us. Let's rejoice and extend our hand to those less fortunate. Happy Holidays! _______________________________   Bidding you adieu!   I want to take this time to thank all of you that have supported me and the South King County Chapter over the years. After serving on the Board for 20 years in various roles with the President as the final chapter, this is my farewell letter. I have watched many members come and go, but our Chapter has always remained welcoming and engaging to new members. I am very pleased with the growth that we have had this year, which resulted in our Chapter reaching superstar status from SHRM. This is a testament to all of you that have encouraged your friends to join our group. Continue to show the warmth and generosity that you have displayed in the past. South King County may be a small Chapter, but we are mighty!!    Read full letter  |

Align HR practices with your objectives and keep your company competitive.
A company's ability to grow and stay on top of customer demand has always depended heavily on the quality of its people. Now, more than ever, businesses recognize that finding (and keeping) a highly skilled and motivated workforce is pivotal to success. Maybe you're a business owner and your company is growing, or you're an employee at a small- to midsize-company and management has asked you to take on some-or all-of their HR functions. Either way, knowing how to set up and implement successful HR practices (not to mention navigating the legal minefields in today's increasingly regulated environment) can be tricky. Human Resources Kit For Dummies is your one-stop resource for learning the nuts and bolts of HR. It gives you forms and templates that you can put to immediate and productive use. New information on anti-discrimination legislation; measuring performance; hiring, firing, and retaining employees; and training and development plansThe latest info on online and social media policiesUpdated forms and contracts, from job application forms and sample employee policies to performance appraisals and benefit plan worksheets

OSHA News Release: 13-2144-NAT  WASHINGTON - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration today issued a proposed rule to improve workplace safety and health through improved tracking of workplace injuries and illnesses. The announcement follows the Bureau of Labor Statistics' release of its annual Occupational Injuries and Illnesses report, which estimates that three million workers were injured on the job in 2012.
"Three million injuries are three million too many," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels. "With the changes being proposed in this rule, employers, employees, the government and researchers will have better access to data that will encourage earlier abatement of hazards and result in improved programs to reduce workplace hazards and prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities. The proposal does not add any new requirement to keep records; it only modifies an employer's obligation to transmit these records to OSHA."
