God of our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows

We praise you for your unequaled greatness.

Thank you for the year behind us and for the year ahead.

Help us in this new year to fret less and laugh more,

to teach our children to laugh by laughing with them,

to teach others to love by loving them.

Thank you for another new year and for new chances

every day. We pray for peace, for light, and for hope,

that we might spread them to others.

We enter into the unknown year knowing you will be with us every step of the way. Amen!

For the Family
A Most Excellent Idea!

Most everyone is inclined to make New Year's resolutions in an effort to improve themselves and/or their lifestyles. This is generally done with the hope of making the year ahead better than the one that has just passed. Shed a few pounds, spend less, save more, be more generous or outgoing...all of these resolutions are good but don't provide lasting value.

This year, go all out and make a most EXCELLENT resolution! Make this year about uncovering God's blueprint for your life and begin to understand your unique purpose!

Raising Moral Teens
Chris Stefanick to Help Us Celebrate Our Catholic Identity
During Catholic Schools Week!

Thursday, January 31st

7:00 PM

The Bishop England Performing Arts Center

"Chris is one of the best youth speakers I've ever heard. His love for our Lord, our Lady, and our teens is clear, and his ability to impact his audience is truly a wonderful gift."

"Chris is one of the most engaging young defenders of the Christian faith on the scene today."

"Chris has the unique ability to give students truth in a way that makes them want to listen. He challenges students to think hard about the choices they are making and to make positive changes in their lives."

Chris Stefanick, syndicated columnist, author, and regular on Catholic radio and television, is a highly effective speaker with more than a decade of experience working with teens and parents. Chris will deliver an exciting, hilarious, and deeply moving presentation to the STUDENTS ONLY on the virtues of real love and authentic relationships during a daytime assembly on January 31st.

At 7:00 PM on the 31st, Chris will provide another presentation for PARENTS ONLY offering practical information and advice on how to raise a moral teen in today's difficult world. We, as parents, have the power to influence and help our teens chose the right path, says Chris. He will share practical techniques that can be used to turn the influence into action!

These exciting, inspiring, upbeat, and faith-filled programs will be delivered with passion, sensitivity, and plenty of humor! Don't miss this wonderful opportunity!

Celebrate...Commemorate...Participate!
News from Mary Nemeth, Director of Relations & Giving

2012 was quite a success from a Relations and Giving standpoint! Thank you to all who do so much in support of our great school! We welcome continued gifts to this year's Annual Fund campaign up until June 30, 2013.

We raise needed funds through "big" events such as our Gala, Golf Outing, Bishops Boutique and upcoming Dueling Pianos evening, but every penny counts and there are some simple "little" things I would ask you to consider in this new year to "give" to Bishop England High School.

We will be offering Butter Braid Bread in a fundraiser kicking off on February 19th. These delicious pastry breads are very high quality and will be delivered in time for Easter! Stay tuned - details will be forthcoming very soon.

Link your Harris Teeter VIC card in support of BEHS right at the register when shopping there. It's easy! Publix also offers a card benefitting our school. Those may be picked up here in the office or at the Publix Customer Service counter. These dollars really add up and we receive a nice check from both markets each year. Please consider helping in the cause! Thank you!

Bishop England To March for the Right to Life
This January, Bishop England students will be the voice for those who don't have one. On Saturday, January 12th, 30 students marched in Columbia for the Right to Life. In two weeks, students will make the annual trip to Washington, DC to stand up for the right to life from conception to natural death at the "March for Life." Hundreds of thousands of youth will gather together in the nation's capital in an effort to overturn "Roe vs. Wade." We will attend a youth Mass, rally with thousands of other students, spend time at the Smithsonian Mall, and work hard to defend the right to life!

A few spots are still available - open to BEHS juniors and seniors only. The cost of the trip is $275. For information, contact Justin Gaeta at jgaeta@behs.com

Class Notes

News from our Distinguished Alumni

Tommy McQueeney, Class of '70, has a solid history in Charleston and maintains a strong connection to Bishop England. His father and all of his children attended the school! An accomplished businessman and now an author, Tommy has published two books, The Rise of Charleston and Sunsets Over Charleston. The books are essentially an historical who's who of our great city and feature interviews with and essays on several prominent BEHS grads such as Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Judge Michael Duffy, Tommy Condon, Joseph P. Griffith, Tommy Hartnett, Sister Mary Joseph Ritter, Arthur McFarland, Hank Hofford and Michael Bennett, Elizabeth Colbert, LuLu Busch, Admiral Bill Schachte, and many more Holy City luminaries!

The best part is that ALL proceeds from the sale of these books are donated to charity! Funds from The Rise support Our Lady of Mercy Outreach on John's Island and funds from Sunsets help Healing Farms Ministries.

Books may be purchased in local bookstores, on Amazon in hard copy or for your Nook, Kindle or iPad, or directly from Tommy (autographed too!) For further information, please contact Tommy at tommcqueeney@me.com.
