Summer Reading Challenge 2013 Exercise Your Mind this summer in our 2013 Summer Reading Challenge. Kids, from infant to high school seniors, are invited to pledge to read from one to 100 books. When they achieve their goal, they will receive a prize and be entered into a Grand Prize Drawing. It's easy to participate, just log on to our special Summer Reading website and get started. |

Calling All Comedians
 This is your chance. The Dewey Decibel Stand-Up Comedy Tour - Bill Hildebrandt, a regular headliner at the Riviera in Las Vegas, along with Kevin Kramis - will stop here on August 30. But before they do, they invite all local comics to enter one minute of their best (clean) material for a chance to have five minutes to open the show for the tour. Upload one minute of your best jokes beginning July 1. Check out StarkLibrary.org, for details on how you can enter. The public will vote for their favorite comic and choose who gets to open the show. |

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Teen Jeopardy contests are going on now. Compete against your friends at your favorite branch then come to the Main Library on August 1st to compete for the title of the smartest teen in the Stark County District Library. Find a tournament and show us how smart you are. |

Annual Summer Photo Contests  This is your chance to show off photos of your vacation, your family, a beautiful sunset, you name it. We're holding our annual Summer Photo Contest through July 27. Main Library, DeHoff Memorial, Jackson Township, Madge Youtz, North, and Perry Sippo Branches will display your photos. Rules and entry information are available on this downloadable entry form. For the 8th year, the Lake Community Branch will hold a separate photo contest in partnership with Quail Hollow State Park Camera Club. You'll need a different entry form for this contest and the rules are also slightlty different. Find the information at this link. |

Preserve Summer's Bounty How is your garden growing this summer? Does it look like you're going to have more produce than you can eat? We have a solution (or two) for you. This Saturday, June 22, Christine Kendle from the OSU Extension Service will demonstrate water bath and pressure canning, along with jam making. The following Saturday, you can learn the basics of freezing and drying to safely preserve food. Please register.
