Mariposa County Business Leaders will hold a Marketing Workshop and Town Hall to discuss methods of economic recovery from the impact of the closure of Yosemite National Park as a result of the recent government shutdown. The event will take place at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, Mariposa County Government Building, 5100 Bullion St., Mariposa, Calif. on Wednesday, October 23rd from 5-7:00 p.m.  

Local business leaders will offer planning tools and information that will help local businesses recuperate following the Government shutdown of Yosemite National Park. As a gateway to Yosemite, Mariposa County is highly dependent on tourism with more than 85% of the County's revenue coming directly from Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT). It is estimated that Mariposa County will still lose nearly half a million dollars per month on lost TOT during the shutdown, as well as during the anticipated slow recovery. And the trickle-down effect will affect everyone in this rural County, including the lodging partners who will lose more than 5 million dollars on canceled reservations.
