Simplify Your Landscape and Your Life |
Greetings! The Yardvocate offers a quick look at news and tips that will help you simplify your landscape and your life. It's an outgrowth of our philosophy that landscaping should be three things: beautiful, healthy and loved. We hope to see you at the Southeastern Flower Show! |
It's Time for the Southeastern Flower Show!
The weather is warming up and whetting our appetite to get outside. Get inspired at the upcoming Southeastern Flower Show, scheduled March 15-17 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
King Landscaping is honored to be invited to create a display garden. Our theme is a secret until after the judging on Thursday afternoon. But here is a hint! We are creating a ravishing garden that stimulates the senses with provocative colors, textures and smells that will leave you wanting more. Curious? Come see our garden.
The theme of the Southeastern Flower Show is "What's Old is New Again." Every flower show ticket gives you free admission to the American Craft Council Show, located next door. All advance ticket purchases entitle the buyer to a one-year membership in the Southeastern Horticultural Society.

Plants die, it's nature's way. But don't rush to judgement just because there are no leaves on your favorite tree or shrub.
We call plants that lose their leaves in winter deciduous. Other plants drop leaves during periods of drought or stress but will rebound if watered. So how do you know if your plant is dead or alive without leaves?
Try the thumbnail test. Scratch a branch with your thumbnail. If you see green, there's a good chance it's still alive. Other signs of life are branches that bend without snapping off and firm buds.
So next time you wonder if a plant is dead or alive, remember a green thumb(nail) is a sign of life! |

Which Type of Landscape Training is Better?
Which offers the best bang for your buck: on-the-job training or classroom learning? Here's a link to my perspective. It appears on pages 18-19 of the Georgia Urban Agriculture Council's newsletter.
You don't have to know how to reach your long-term goal; you just need to have one. Each step you take opens up new possibilities that you couldn't see before. |
