TMA pushes for new solutions as NPL sales accelerate - Conference Coverage
by Debtwire

The pace of NPL sales is picking up as regulatory pressure is increasingly pushing banks into dealing with their problem loans and fierce competition among buyers is driving up bids and closing gaps to asking prices.  But straight sales to hedge funds and private equity groups are not the only solution, with other types of structures emerging to deal with NPLs, according to speakers at last week's TMA Europe Distressed Investing Conference in London.

TMA Europe's Eastern European conference comes to Prague

TMA Europe will be staging its third Eastern European conference in the spring in Prague. The event, called Investment and Innovation - Restructuring and Reform in CEE, will take place at The Czech National Bank on Wednesday, 16 March, 2016.

It follows two very successful conferences focusing on the specific challenges and opportunities for turnaround professionals working in this region held at the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest.

The event in Prague will see speakers debating issues including private equity buying and restructuring of the banks in CEE. There will also be a keynote speech by Ralf Zeitlberger of Erste Bank, Austria.

The event, which runs from 4pm until 8pm, is free to attend but pre-registration is essential.

For more information and to book online, please see the TMA Europe website.
Call for proposals - 2016 TMA Europe Annual Conference - 9-10 June 2016

The theme of the 2016 Rome conference will be focussing on and emphasizing  the culture and values of turnaround. We believe that technical skills are important but also culture and values of the company and of the turnaround consultants are a milestone to achieve success and to increase performance.

At the same time we would like to focus on SMEs in Europe because they are the backbone of Europe's economy. They represent 99% of all businesses in the EU. In the past five years, they have created around 85% of new jobs and provided two-thirds of the total private sector employment in the EU. The European Commission considers SMEs and entrepreneurship as key to ensuring economic growth, innovation, job creation, and social integration in the EU. Furthermore the 60% of EU companies are owned by a family or by a sole proprietor.

The title for the conference will be" Increasing perfomance through Turnaround Culture and Values - a focus on SMEs in Europe."

With this in mind, we are seeking proposals for the panel sessions which last 45 minutes each and also speaker sessions which last 30 minutes.

If you would like to submit a proposal please complete this form to Mandy Caruana. Deadline for submissions is Friday 6 November 2015.

Sponsorship opportunities are available at the conference.

Aristophil: was a "Ponzi" stunt at the root of the collapse of a collection specialising in letters, autographs and manuscripts?
by Antoine Adeline & Alexandre Le Ninivin, Squire Patton Boggs

A scandal in the world of letters, autographs and old manuscripts would not have gone unnoticed and the case of Aristophil promises to lead to extensive press coverage. A massive fraud, thousands of works, 20,000 investors and hundreds of millions of euros at stake.

A very (perhaps too attractive) investment in letters, autographs and manuscripts.

In the 2000s, Grard Lhritier created a company called Aristophil with the goal of propositioning anyone to invest in the collections of letters and old manuscripts, with the promise of a return of more than 8% each year; this investment being out of the field of the French Solidarity Wealth Tax.   Read more...
