EACTP on course to launch pioneering education programme

The European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals (EACTP) is on track to launch its training and examination programme at the end of this year.

The EACTP is working to complete its curriculum in order for study courses to start next year with the first exams due to be held in London in November 2016. From 2017 examinations will be held annually in June in conjunction with the TMA Europe annual conferences.

The curriculum will set out areas to be tested, and a suggested reading list for the three modules of finance, law and management. Both the curriculum and reading list will be available online with applicants able to either self-study or take optional study courses.

The EACTP's Education and Training Committee is working closely with Professor Jan Adriaanse of Leiden University, the IEB in Madrid and senior EACTP members on the creation of the curriculum.

Alan Tilley, Chair of the ETC, said: "Work is progressing at pace to complete the curriculum so we can launch Europe's first professional turnaround management exam. I would like to thank all those involved, particularly our colleagues at Leiden University and The IEB whose help and support has been crucial."

Mr Tilley also thanked Joanne Holland, Pedro Acien and Marcel Windt for their contribution to the ETC.

More details about the curriculum and the exams will be announced later in the year.

TMA UK Annual Conference

The Award winning TMA UK Conference will take place on 12th November at the Royal College of Physicians in Regent's Park in London.

Last year's conference was awarded the Most Innovative Event of 2014 and featured Lord Leigh and Lord Glassman as the keynote speakers and we ended the day with Simon Weston.  We were fortunate enough to sell out two weeks before the conference, which was attended by nearly 200 delegates from 100 organisations.

This year's theme is Managing Talent and we have lined up an impressive array of speakers and panellists. The two panels will look at Managing Creative Talent and Managing Talent in Disruptive Industries.
The speakers include: Judge Kevin Carey; Elizabeth Clark; Ian Gray; Rainer Hersch; Manley Hopkinson; Sir Ian McGeechan; James Murray; Byron Nurse; Chris Parkhouse; Fraser Pearce; Adam Plainer; Dr Mike Rugg-Gunn; Cilla Snowball CBE; Rosemary Squire OBE; Peter Waine & James Wheeler.

The TMA UK's conferences are of the highest quality and there are still a few sponsorship opportunities left. These are for firms seeking an involvement in building the TMA and benefiting from its cross border global network.

To assist you with all this Education and Networking we will start at 8am with Breakfast. Other networking opportunities are in the mid-morning, Lunch and mid-afternoon breaks. The day ends with a Champagne Reception.

Priority booking for TMA members is now open. Delegate Prices are 350 + VAT (member rate) - 250 + VAT if you are from an overseas TMA Chapter. Book now.
Recent Czech Supreme Court Decisions: Twilight of Secured Creditors?

The Czech Supreme Court recently issued two decisions having significant impact on the position of secured creditors (i.e. generally financial institutions) within insolvency proceedings. Both decisions stem from one of the first major insolvencies conducted under the (then new) Czech Insolvency Act effective from 2008 in respect of the group of companies in a glass-making business. This article briefly reviews those decisions and points out their practical effects on the rights of secured creditors.
