Leading figures in the financial services sector are being lined up to debate how London can continue to build big opportunities in the post AQR Europe at a groundbreaking event being held in the city.
Book now.

TMA Europe's inaugural Financial Services Round Table event will take place in London on Wednesday, 28 January.

Further Round Table discussions are set to be held in Milan, Madrid and Frankfurt later in the year as part of the new series of events aiming to debate and help shape key banking trends and policy.

The London event starts at 7pm with welcome drinks followed by an hour of speeches from five of the key figures in the financial services sector.

Confirmed speakers so far are Oliver Kehren, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley in London and Head of EMEA Special Situations Credit Analytics and Will Newton, Head of Financial Institutions, Restructuring Services at Deloitte. Other lead speakers will represent the regulatory, alternative capital, and turnaround management stakeholder groups.

Each speaker will then host a table for dinner, and the evening will conclude with a presentation of each table's debate and the chance for the speakers to answer any questions that have been raised.

The Round Table events are the vision of incoming TMA Europe President Lukas Fecker, who said:  "We want to create a platform for the senior leaders in the financial services to come together, and formulate a point of view which the TMA then can support and use to help influence and shape the future of the sector as it grows and develops.

"Don't miss out on your chance to be involved in these ground-breaking debates."

The London Round Table takes place at The Brewery, 52 Chiswell Street, EC1Y 4SD.

Save the date for Stockholm next summer

TMA Europe's annual conference will be held in Sweden next summer, with bookings due to open early in the new year. Plans for the eighth annual staging of the event are taking shape and organisers would love to hear from anyone who would like to take part as a panellist or sponsor.

The conference - one of the leading events for turnaround practitioners, investors and other professionals involved in distressed environments - will take place in Stockholm on 11 and 12 June.

The last two annual events have seen record attendances with more than 150 delegates taking advantage of the chance to catch up with colleagues from across the continent and get up to date with key developments in the industry.

'Rebuilding after the Turnaround' is the theme for 2015 and this will feature heavily in speeches, panel discussions and presentations on turnaround case studies.

Fredrik Vernersson, the president of TMA Sweden, who will co-chair the conference together with Christian Jakovlew, said rebuilding after turnaround was a hugely topical issue. He said: "The economic situation in Europe is not expected to improve in 2015 and the growth will be minimal. Turnaround and rebuilding after turnaround are increasingly important to save corporates in various jurisdictions in Europe."

Mr Jakovlew  added: "The speakers and participants at the conference will discuss the economic business environment in Europe and highlight the Scandinavian, Nordic and Baltic markets as lucrative areas in investing for the entire global investment community.

"In addition to some real life examples, we will also touch on Eastern Europe becoming an area where structured turnarounds will play a more prominent role."

Role of turnaround professionals raised in Parliament

A call for turnaround professionals to be more involved in pre-pack and other insolvency cases was made during a debate in Parliament.

Lord Leigh of Hurley suggested an enhanced role for turnaround professionals in such cases during discussion at the House of Lords on Tuesday, 2 December on the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill.

During his speech Lord Leigh said: "One idea for my noble friend would be, as part of a pre-pack, and possibly other insolvency situations, for a turnaround professional to be charged with the role of reviewing the business before administration and that professional ensuring that the management of the business is undertaken as intended after the pre-pack for the greater good and not just for themselves. To date the focus has been on Old Co., and I would like to look at New Co."

Leiden Law School partners EACTP on pioneering turnaround profession exam

Leiden Law School has agreed to partner with the European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals (EACTP) to develop and launch its pioneering education and examination programme.

The EACTP, which has introduced the first European-wide accreditation programme for all turnaround professionals across the continent, is currently allowing applicants with a strong turnaround record to be certified on the basis of their experience. But the association is now in the process of developing its education and learning platform. It includes examinations, which, once introduced, all applicants will need to take in order to become a certified turnaround professional.

The prestigious Leiden Law School is working closely with the EACTP to establish the curriculum, and has also agreed to act as a faculty in managing the examination process.
