We have confirmed our first Keynote Speaker. Simon Kuper. Simon is the co author of SOCCERNOMICS, a book that charts the success and failure of soccer systems across the globe. Born in Uganda, educated in the Netherlands and UK, Simon lives in Paris and is a correspondent with the FT.

2013 Distressed Investing Event in London
Following the successful inaugural 2012 TMA Europe Distressed Investing Event, 2013's event, "Finding Value/ Creating Value" will be held on September 19th, 2013 kindly hosted by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and co-sponsored by KPMG.
It will follow a similar pattern to last year; short, sharp and focused; 4 00 pm to 9 00 pm with industry leaders as panellists and speakers and ample networking time.
Distressed Debt buyers, sellers and professional advisors will explore buy side and sell side opportunities and the subsequent value enhancement processes. Join experts from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, UK, East Europe and Benelux in widening boundaries.

TMA Nederland's New Year's Event - 16 Jan 2013
Prominent players in the construction and property market have been found willing to debate about the issues, but also about solutions and opportunities for transformation.
The panel members will be Elco Brinkman (Bouwend Nederland), Nard Schuddebeurs (Cofiton), prof. Hans de Jonge (TU Delft), Bert Verburg (Houthoff Buruma), Johan Westerhof (curator TCN) and Ate van der Walle (HWH).

CRO Rising
After the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008, Bryan Marsal started as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) to preserve value for the American investment bank that was in total disarray. The CRO function fulfils a crucial role in preserving value for companies that are under-performing or in crisis. As the turnaround business further professionalises the CRO will gain prominence.
In past times when a company was confronted with difficulties a former CFO would be requested to come to assist but more and more a CRO comes to the rescue. This trend is strengthened by the current economic conditions in which there is an increasing need for specialist turnaround skills. In our Benelux practice we observe as well companies increasingly requesting for support of experienced advisers with operational know how in multiple industries.

TMA (UK) President's Message
As Christmas fast approaches, this year sees the end of my 3 years as President of TMA (UK). It has been an interesting time in terms of the economic environment - which has seen a period dogged by recession, promise of recovery and then further recession, with little sign of the promised influx of work for those of us in the turnaround market - and for TMA (UK) as an association, which over the last three years has gone from strength to strength.
We have continued to expand our involvement in the UK and Europe and are now fully representative of all those involved in the Turnaround market with each market sector represented across the TMA Board, our events and at the annual conference.
Although I am stepping down as President, I will continue to be on the TMA (UK) Board, supporting incoming President Chris Hart and President-Elect Matthew Quade as they take the helm. From January 2013 I will also take up post as Director of TMA Europe.
I wish them, and you, every success for Christmas and the New Year and look forward to seeing you at our events throughout 2013.
