TMA launches the European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals
EACTP was formally launched at the TMA UK Annual Conference on November 15th 2012 following approval the preceding day of funding support by the Directors of TMA Europe at its quarterly Board Meeting. Its objective is to develop and recognise the highest standards in the turnaround and restructuring profession in Europe.
EACTP will be licensed by TMA Global's Certification Program (ACTP) already operational in North America, Japan, Australia, and in formation in South Africa. The current program in Finland in will be coordinated into the EACTP program where appropriate quality and performance standards have been demonstrated.
EACTP will be an educational program recognising attainment of professional capability through both academic achievement and experience. It will recognise local jurisdictional competence and professional capability in turnaround and restructuring management, finance and law. It will encompass a wide range of individuals involved in turnaround and restructuring; from CRO's and interim managers through insolvency practitioners and through specialist financial and legal professionals.
Examinations will be developed to be sat firstly in 2015 for aspiring professionals seeking recognition of capability above their primary professional qualification. Prior to the end of 2014 applications for membership and practising certificates can be made without the requirement for examination success providing that the candidate can demonstrate sufficient supporting experience evidence to the Standards and Admissions Committee.

TMA (UK) Annual Conference Review
While attendees at this year's annual conference may have turned up pondering why the anticipated wall of turnarounds had failed to materialise, they will have left the London meeting having heard two passionately argued yet diametrically opposed views of the economy; a series of uplifting tales of British manufacturing companies; a compelling introduction to the world of statistical analysis and how it has revolutionised how professional football is played; and an exploration of a whole clutch of alternative ways to finance business, presented by the people doing it.
Throw in sessions comparing the role of the IBR and the CRO, and an introduction to the vital art of dealing with the media in a crisis, and you have this year's TMA (UK) conference.
There was also the small matter of the launch of the first-ever pan-European turnaround accreditation scheme, an achievement ten years in the making which many of us had given up on, but which hopefully will achieve its goal of professionalising the art of turnaround across the Continent.
