The SMED Newsletter is published three times a year with three annual issues. The Newsletter is published by the SMED Alumni Association and Graduate Candidates of SMED. Our primary mission is to highlight the achievements of our community members and our International Advisory, as well as research and scholarship achievements of our graduate students. We intend to build a Global Community of Interest (GCI) on Educational Research in Multicultural Environments. Our GCI members network meets once every two years during the International Conference for E-Learning/E-Sante for Africa (ELES4A), held every other year in Senegal, West Africa.

SMED on the Web!
SMED rolled out a new program marketing portal.

    SMED Doctoral Program rolled out a new web portal during the SUBR Spring 2014 Faculty Convocation on January 6, 2014.  Please take the time to visit the SMED Web Portal.  Its primary function is program marketing as well as international recruitment.  SMED is among the first HBCU doctoral programs to be delivered  fully online (SMED 2014/2017 Strategic Plan).

2. JAM SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
The SMED Alumni Association initiated a JAM Scholarship Funds on November 4th, 2014 In Baton Rouge, LA - USA

These funds available through our SUS Foundation will provide scholarship funds and conference travel funds to quality graduate students. Our mission is to foster a culture of graduate excellence at SU.  Please visit the JAM Foundation web page. Help us disseminate by sharing within your Unit.  Leave a message to the Foundation President (See: SUNDEE Warren) and/or the President of the SMED Alumni Association 2014-2016, Dr. Michael Self (See Michael Self Page). 
3. SMEDONLINE
SMED DEVELOPS A DISTANCE EDUCATION PORTAL FOR ONLINE AND INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION USING THE MOODLE LMS PLATEFORM.
  
 SMED gives thanks to the leadership at CourSites.com and the CourseSites open course series community for having enabled us to develop and pilot all our online courses using the Blackboad Learning Management System. CourseSites.com, from Blackboard is a strategic partner of SMED for the ELES4Africa Conference 2014. 
4. SMED Research and International Advisory
SMED RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP
We use our alumni members to mentor our students. Our International Dissertation Advisory Committee is composed of experts in educational research and technology. Our students publish in referee research journals before they graduate.
5. MERLOT AFRICA NETWORK DIGITAL SCHOLARS

 The MAN Digital Scholars Program is a community of faculty and graduate students who will be mentors, innovators, project leaders, and liaisons communicating the interests and innovations of educators in the area of education technology to the larger MAN community.  The MERLOT Africa Network is a outreach of the MERLOT International Organization to Africa. MERLOT is a free and open peer reviewed collection of online teaching and learning materials and faculty-developed services contributed and used by an international education community. MAN was co-founded in 2007 by Professor Moustapha Diack  and Dr. Gerry Hanley, MERLOT CEO and California State University.

The ELES 4 Africa (ELES4A) is a global conference organized in October every other year, in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa.

 

The ELES4A conference is dedicated to fostering the applications of learning technologies for education, training and workforce and also, the application of e-Health Technologies for public health in Africa. The goal is to bring together people actively involved in these sectors in the African continent with world experts. The conference provides excellent workshops that promote the use of new-generation e-Learning solutions and their application in the development of distance education programs aligned to international standards. Also, the conference promotes the application of e-Health technologies for public health in Africa. 

ELES honors and celebrate the lifelong achievements of global E-Learning and E-Health practitioners as well as  Public Policy makers for their contribution to global education. Please see the ELES4A Excellence Awards  2012.

This SMED Doctoral Program in Science/Mathematics Education & Technology is a 70:30 Hybrid Program.  You can complete your doctorate by commuting only 30% of your time to our SUBR campus. 70% of the program requirement is fully delivered online and Advisement is partially done using modern telecommunication and conferencing tools.

 

Our dissertation Advisory Members is composed of Global Experts in STEM Research and in Learning Technologies. Our Alumni serves as Research Mentors to help you as mentors while you progress to graduation.
