Greetings!

March 13 2013                                       March 20, 2013

Spring actually seems to be arriving. I have been painting down at the "Office", a pull-out on Ocean Blvd just north of Foss Beach, in my mobile studio (Minty, the mint green convertible VW). I am working on painting '100 Views of the Sea'. 80 paintings done-almost there. Always at the same location, and the same time of day, and I can see the color of the ocean changing .
I watch the warm season sea birds returning: Golden eyes, Hooded Mergansers, Scaups, (see them all easily on Eeel Pond) and all the ducks are starting their courtship displays. Hooray!

For our drawing session this week please bring BASKETS
to draw.

The sketching prompt decided on by the group is:

New Growth
  .
There's still time to sketch!

We will share our sketching experiences at the
beginning of our session.

Please enjoy the content below:

ALL THE BUILDINGS IN NEW YORK...
THAT I'VE DRAWN SO FAR
a new book

by James Gulliver Hancock
"James Gulliver Hancock is one of those people who set impossible tasks for themselves that evolve into blogs and then into books. For Mr. Hancock, a 35-year-old Australian artist and illustrator, the task has been to draw every building in New York..." New York Times 3/28/2013

Hancock says,"You look at them closely, and the cornices are different, or maybe the way the steps come up to the doors is different. That's what makes drawing different from Instagram. You really have to concentrate on the small things."

We have experienced this in our Drawing Together sessions: I've heard, "I never looked at something so carefully before!"
We are  seeing and appreciating details of our world we never noticed before.
I'm starting to imagine a group project:

ALL THE BUILDINGS IN RYE...
THAT WE'VE DRAWN SO FAR!!!

What do you think?

Ways of Drawing Baskets
Things to think about when you begin to draw:

Horizontal or Vertical composition?
Pencil Or Pen?
One object on page, or a multiple images?
Outline style or rendered light and shadow, or
combination?
Realistic or an abstract impression?
