Greetings!

Last week's musical instrument still life, combined with the warm-ups studying the work of Georges Braque worked well.
It was fun to have lots of shapes to draw: Saxaphone, bugle, (thanks! Priscilla) maracas, (thank you! Jane) Ukelele (mahalo! Peg) and guitar, (gracias! Jim) clarinet, (merci! Alison) and recorders and oriental rugs from my house.
Hope I didn't forget to thank anyone.

This week we will continue to investigate different styles of drawing.
looking at Pointallist Georges Seurat's approach to drawing, and trying a different method of drawing, giving us more options in the way we choose to draw.
See Seurat's works and bio below.

Sketching prompt for this last week: Stone walls and/or rocks
was decided on by the group. There's still time to sketch a few! See tutorial below.
People really seemed to enjoy sharing their weekly sketches last time - the buzz was music to my ears.

I invite you to enjoy the following video and items of interest-

Drawing Rocks

A step by step method (not a video)
by Diane Wright, explaining
light and shade and more.

Artist of the Week
Georges Seurat
This week's warm-ups will study Seurat.
Now here's a person who is attuned to SHAPES!
Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

Georges Seurat (1859 -  1891) was a French painter and draftsman. His large work Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, his most famous painting, altered the direction of modern art by initiating Neo-impressionism, and is one of the icons of 19th century painting.

Seurat was born into a very rich family in Paris. His father, Antoine Chrysostom Seurat, was a legal official and a native of Champagne; his mother, Ernestine Faivre, was Parisian.

Georges Seurat first studied art with Justin Lequiene, a sculptor. Seurat attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1878 and 1879.
