Greetings!

We're in the home stretch with Running And Reading at Rye Public Library!  There are just two sessions to go until we finish the book discussion and cross the finish line in New Castle for those doing teh Great Island 5K.  Last week we had a presentation on minimal running equipment and technique with Eric McCann of Runner's Alley and discussed Chapters 14-20 of Born To Run. Then,  we slipped our for 2 miles on the trail before it rained.  Next Tuesday we'll discuss of Chapters 21-27 (pages 136 -213) then head out for a 5K road run.  Click here for our full schedule

Ultra Running Articles

I met up with running journalist  Rob Levey ,writer of the great Running and Reading profile, (pictured above with his sons )this week and  talked with him about his ultra running experiences, among many other topics.  He provided the following links to two great articles describing his anticipation and experience running a 50 mile race.  I thought they gave a great feel for the experience.

About Born to Run and Chris McDougall
Click here for the Author's website and other links for plenty of info, interviews, etc.  .

Here are the questions to consider as you read chapters 14-20 for Sept. 18:
McDougall describes competition as a concept. How does this factor into the story so far?

Coach Vigil isolates a spirit of kindness and love as key to Tarahumara running.  How does this compare/contrast to the events so far?

Do shifts in time and location; narrative vs. exposition propel the story or interfere with the narrative?  Do you respond to this style and structure?
Check out the site for the Sun. Oct. 7 race we can train to run.  I'd suggest registering now if you plan to take part.

Oh my aching feet....  This has been great fun up to now, and I can only look forward to wrapping up a great book and a great race with all of you.  Looking forward to next week's session.

Cheers,
