Greetings!

Well, we're half way through Running And Reading at Rye Public Library!  Last week we ran close to 5K after discussing Chapters 7-13 of Born To Run.   We'll see how the group feels next week, and decide on our distance after our discussion of Chapters 14-22 (pages -  , and our presentation by Eric McCann of Runner's Alley.  Click here for our full schedule

We may have a special guest as well.  Journalist Rob Levey (see below) is trying to arrange his schedule to join us.

Great Write-Up of Running and Reading

I contacted Rob Levey and discussed the R&R Program with him, and he wrote the article linked to the photo above for his Wed. 9/12 Portsmouth Herald Seacoast Running column (click the photo to connect to the article)

Principles of Natural Running with Dr. Mark Cucuzzella

This is a generally informative piece on running physiology--and barefooting specifically.

Check out the Running and Reading Wiki!
Lisa designed a wiki to support the R&R program.  Sign in and add new questions, thoughts, ideas, whatever. There is some fun stuff there already.  Feel free to add!
About Born to Run and Chris McDougall
Click here for the Author's website and other links for plenty of info, interviews, etc.  .

Here are the questions to consider as you read chapters 14-20 for Sept. 18:
McDougall describes competition as a concept. How does this factor into the story so far?

Coach Vigil isolates a spirit of kindness and love as key to Tarahumara running.  How does this compare/contrast to the events so far?

Do shifts in time and location; narrative vs. exposition propel the story or interfere with the narrative?  Do you respond to this style and structure?
Check out the site for the Sun. Oct. 7 race we can train to run.  I'd suggest registering now if you plan to take part.

We've got a great group and I've been having a lot of fun with this program! (I hope you can say the same)  Its getting exciting as our race gets closer--for those who are taking part.  Looking forward to next week's session.

Cheers,
