WATER UTILITY RATE INCREASE

The Wisconsin PSC has authorized a water rate increase for the Village of Saukville effective April 1, 2016.  This increase is reflected on the 2nd quarter billing that was recently mailed out.  The last increase was in 2010.  Only water rates are affected.  The new water rate charge is $3.15/1000 gallons of use.
This increase is due in large part to the construction of the new well and pumping station which will replace an older well.  This project was undertaken to ensure that the Village continues to have reliable and safe potable water in the future.
Other Special Fees:
   - Special Meter Read Request - $25.00
   - Special Billing Request - $25.00
   - Request to turn water off - No Charge
   - Request to turn water back on - $45.00 (reg. business hrs); $60.00 (outside reg. hrs)

NEWS & SERVICES
Vandalism to Village Property
The Village has experienced ongoing vandalism to its municipal properties from time to time over the years.  This includes park facilities, well houses, water towers, streets, signs, trees, etc.  Summer months see an increase in this activity.  The cost of vandalism can be expensive and is passed on to taxpayers.  If you know of, or observe vandalism taking place, please call the Saukville Police Dept. (262-284-9423) or the Ozaukee Co. Sherrif's Dept. (262-284-7172) immediately to report an incident.

Village Ordinance requires pet owners to remove any pet waste immediately after deposit on public or private property not owned or possessed by the pet owner.  Please do your part to help keep Saukville clean and healthy for all to enjoy and clean up after your pet.   Remember, leaving this waste (even in plastic bags) is a form of litter.

Lawn Maintenance Lawn Mower
Chapter 151 of the Municipal Code provides for standards of property maintenance which prohibits unsightly growth and foliage of any nature.  Routine maintenance of lawns, yards, and property foliage is  the responsibility of every property owner. Please help keep Saukville beautiful; cut your lawns and maintain all property foliage on a regular basis.

Rain Garden Grant
The Ozaukee County Land and Water Management received a grant to help residents in the Milwaukee River Watershed area plant rain gardens.  A rain garden is a shallow depression, planted with native flowers, which catches rain water from downspouts and rooftops.  The water is allowed to soak into the ground instead of flowing over the landscape and potentially sending excess fertilizer and other pollutants into the Milwaukee River.  The grant assists property owners by reimbursing 70% of the establishment costs.  The maximum reimbursement is $750 per rain garden.  If you live in the Milwaukee River Watershed and are interested in the grant program, please call the Ozaukee County Land and Water Management at (262) 284-8313.

Ready Where You Are: Disaster Kit Storage
You never know where you'll be when an emergency occurs, so it's a good idea to be ready wherever you are.  That means preparing supplies for your home, work, and vehicle. The Ready Campaign has information about creating a disaster supply kit for each location.

For your home:

-  Create a kit containing enough food, water, and supplies to last at least three days; and

-  Keep the kit in a designated place and make sure family members know where it is.

For your work:

-  Be prepared to shelter in place for at least 24 hours;

-  Include food, water, and other necessities like medicines in your kit.  Keep the kit in one

container and be ready to grab and go; and

-  Have comfortable walking shoes in case an evacuation requires walking long distances.

For your vehicle:

-  Include jumper cables, flashlights, clothing, and a first aid kit; and

-  Consider having a fully charged cell phone and phone charger, flares, baby formula, and diapers    if you have a small child.

VOTER INFORMATION

Vote-Your Vote Counts

PHOTO/VOTER ID REQUIRED IN 2016

On March 23, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for enforcement of Wisconsin's 2011 voter ID law.  Photo ID is now required for all elections in Wisconsin.

Please be prepared with your Photo ID for the 2016 elections.  Election Inspectors will be required through legislative action to ask for Voter Photo ID, along with a voter's signature to receive a ballot.

As typical with past elections for Wisconsin State Voter Registration applications, voters are still required to provide proof of residence when registering to vote.  A list of acceptable proof of residence documents are listed on the Government Accountability Board's website at http://www.gab.wi.gov/elections-voting/photo-id .

Upcoming Election Dates for 2016:

2016 Partisan Primary - August 9, 2016

2016 Fall General Election - November 8, 2016
