Is Your Mailbox & Post Ready for Winter?
Now is the time to address any deficiencies in your mailbox post or  the mailbox itself.  Before the cold weather hits and the ground freezes, check your mailbox/post for the following:
  • Weak or rotting posts
  • Street side of the box must not protrude beyond the house-side of the curb.
  • The distance from the street to the bottom of the box should be 42" to 46".
  • Wood and metal pipe are the only allowable post materials.  Brick or concrete posts are not allowed for motorists and cyclists safety reasons.

Most winter plow damage occurs when the mailbox projects too far into the street or the post is weak or rotten.  Keeping the furthest projection (street side) of the mailbox at least 2-3 inches behind the back of the concrete curb line is recommended.   Contact the Department of Public Works at 284-0545 with any questions.
